Background

Technical Cooperation Project in Saudi Arabia, part of the United Nations High Commissioner Office for Human Rights. The project has been designed to build national capacities in the field of human rights promotion and protection in Saudi Arabia. It has been developed pursuant to the signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the UN Office of high Commissioner for human rights and Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Human Rights Commission.

The post focuses on promotional work on human right issues and organization of capacity building activities through training and collection of training materials.

The incumbent reports either to senior OHCHR staff member at duty station or to the Regional Representative of the Office of the High Commissioner and works in Saudi Arabia. He or She will perform duties from the Saudi Human Rights Commission.

Duties and Responsibilities

A)    Assist in the implementation of activities as per the annual work plan of the technical cooperation program;

B)     Assist with development of formulation of the annual work plan of OHCHR’s technical cooperation project for Saudi Arabia

C)     Participate as a resource person in workshops and other activities as appropriate;

D)    Carry out training activities to enhance the capacities of the SHRC’s staff members in the field of planning, organization, communication and team work.

E)     Gather human rights materials in print, electronic and audio-visual formats and make them available to the project beneficiaries. 

F)     Collects, researches and analyses pertinent documentations and human rights information in area of assignment; 

G)    Developing TORs for consultants hired to carry out planned activities, facilitate their work, and exert quality control including final evaluation of deliverables.

H)    Preparation of periodic activity reports as well as briefing notes or topical report as required.

I)       Maintains regular contact with local authorities, civil society representatives, as relevant;

J)      Assist in liaising and coordinating with other UN agencies operating in Saudi Arabia regarding the implementation of the annual work plan.

K)    Writes and ensures timely delivery of a variety of reports, communications, briefings, etc.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:          

Master’s degree (Advanced University Degree or equivalent), preferably in law, political science, international relations or other disciplines related to human rights.

A combination of relevant academic qualifications and qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the Advanced University Degree

Experience:

Two years of progressively responsible professional experience in human rights related field and project implementation in lieu of the Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent)

Language Requirements:

Fluency in oral and written Arabic & English

Other:   Describe any additional qualifications:

•             Working knowledge of other UN languages desirable

•             Non-Smoking environment
