The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Purpose of the Job:
The purpose of this position (driver) is to fill the gap in fleet and time to time supports to be provided for the Logistic assistant on handling the routine and planned movements, to drive safely, daily maintenance of vehicle, to keep clean the vehicles internally and externally.

Job description

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement.
  • Perform according to the work and development plan.
  • To drive the NRC Afghanistan office vehicle safely for transport of authorized personnel & goods.
  • To keep assigned vehicle clean both internally and externally.
  • To carry out daily preventive maintenance, including checking fuel & water check (radiator and wipers), lights, tires pressure, horn and general inspection of interior and exterior of the vehicle.
  • To maintain the vehicle logbook properly filled out with fleet information as well as maintenance and making sure it is signed properly by the user & authorizing 0fficer.
  • Ensure that all essential items in vehicles are available at all times (fire extinguisher, first aid box, spare wheel, tool kit and other items as suggested by security).
  • Ensure that HF and VHF radios are working properly, report faults if broken.
  • To undertake errands as requested.
  • To perform as a duty driver at non-official time if required for office work.
  • To undertake any other tasks in case of emergency
  • Transport NRC Afghanistan authorised personnel and goods in and around Kandahar and road missions to Kabul & other field offices.
  • Be aware of security context and update the radio room, security as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Basic school and ability to read and write.
  • Minimum 3- 5 years’ experience of working as a driver in an INGO or a similar organization.
  • Previous experience of working in a complex and volatile security context.
  • Good knowledge of Kandahar roads and landmarks.
  • Fluency in Pashto, both written and verbal.
  • Good local language skills and English language is preferred.
  • 4X4 driving and experience of driving Land Cruiser Hardtops, Land Rovers.
  • Basic maintenance skills.
