Organizational Setting

The Regional Office for Africa (RAF) leads FAO’s response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development.  It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in the region and, in collaboration with departments and divisions at Headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to regional priorities.

In its programme delivery, RAF contributes to the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially the eradication of poverty, achieving zero hunger, good health and well-being. The Sub-Saharan African region continues to be afflicted by hunger and malnutrition. Of growing concern is the accelerated urbanization that is taking place in Sub-Saharan Africa. This means urban food and nutrition insecurity is becoming a concern for many countries in the region. This is especially the case since urban foods are implicated as driving urban obesity, thus fuelling the triple burden of malnutrition. It is against this backdrop that a project on Advancing “Healthy Street Food Incentives” to boost the safety and nutritional balance of street food in Sub-Saharan Africa” has been developed and is being implemented in Tanzania and Ghana. Project TCP/RAF/3611 aims at making street food in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) safer, more nutritionally balanced, contributing to the health and livelihoods of the population in the region, as well as contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.

He/she will work in consultation with the Partnerships and South-South Cooperation Division (DPS) Officer, RAF Partnerships Officer, as well as the Project Task Force (PTF).
