The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

The Middle East Regional Office (MERO) based in Amman, Jordan was created in January 2014 as part of NRC’s reorganization process. We currently have more than 3,000 staff in the Middle East region assisting people displaced by conflict in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Jordan and Palestine. Our work is concentrated on the shelter, education, food security, legal assistance and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors with strong protection and resilience focus integrated into our programs.

NRC operations in the Middle East have grown significantly in recent years and further growth is expected in the months to come. Regional Roving Manager 

 

Our Ideal Candidate: 

For this position, we are seeking an experienced senior manager in a humanitarian context with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant leadership/management experience.  They are a strong leader who is highly adaptable, likes change and can apply their skills in a number of contexts.  In addition, we are seeking an individual with a deep understanding of the challenges of working in complex and volatile environments and a solid knowledge of the context in Middle East Region.  

Position Description:

The Regional Roving Manager will be required to undertake short-term missions to NRC country programmes in the Middle East (Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Turkey) to provide a variety of interim management and/or programme-related functions (between one to three months). Between field assignments, the Regional Roving Manager will be working from the Middle East Regional Office in Amman, contributing to organizational best practice.

Key responsibilities related to the position include: 

  • Act as an interim Area Manager or Head of Programme, in Middle East country programme,

  • Provide support to a Country Director when a country programme requires additional external support to manage a particular situation, e.g. programme transitions, review of programmes, programme and donor strategies and set-up.

  • Act as in-country mentor to newly recruited PMs and CCs Specialist, and contribute to capacity building of staff within area of management

  • Implement NRC’s existing strategies and policies

  • Accountable for a management culture, a working and learning environment in line with NRC's values and leadership/management framework,

  • Responsible for implementation and adherence to NRC generic governing structures, incl. transparent decision making processes, timely and adequate flow of information and management meetings

  • Carry out other relevant missions upon request.
