End-line Assessment (Under Prayas project-Community Preparedness for HIV PrEP among Hijras/Trans Women in India)

Background of the programme:
HIV prevalence among transgender communities is disproportionately high at a rate of 7.5% (National AIDS Control Organizations, annual report 2015-2016). India HIV/AIDS Alliance is implementing a Project Called prayas (meaning Attempt) to Increase awareness on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) among 6000 hijras/trans women in 6 states of India ( Punjab- Jalandhar, Delhi NCR, Vadodara Gujrat , Hooghly West Bengal, Telangana Hyderabad and Hassan Karnataka and also sensitize 120 health care providers on PrEP. The project is also working towards creating crucial evidence through research with the TGH communities on generating demand as well as assess the feasibility of different approaches to introduce and sustain PrEP in India. This is in particular to support the Government to its endeavor to introduce PrEP Initiatives towards key populations as Prevention science.. The project will also create crucial research evidence around the TGH PrEP demand. This project is being implemented in three steps-baseline, implementation and end-line.
About the proposed assignment:
Baseline assessment has been conducted at the beginning of the project using cross sectional mixed methodology. It is proposed to conduct end-line assessment to measure the outcome and impact of the last one and half years of its implementation of project as per the project goal and objective.
Key research questions of the end-line study are:
- What is the level of change in knowledge/awareness on PrEP among TGH and stakeholders and willingness to use PrEP among TGH population?
- What is the impact of Prayas on the barriers to PrEP uptake among TGH at different level (individual, interpersonal, community and structural)?
Primary objective/s for study:
1.To measure that prayas has increased awareness and demand of PrEP as HIV prevention efforts in India among Transgender and Hijra (TGH) population.
2. To measure specific outcome and impact of Prayas intervention at the community, state and national level
