UNICEF’s Division of Communications is seeking a dynamic, motivated individual to serve as a Communications Intern in the Advocacy Section. The Intern will focus on promoting public facing communications in the area of Education, in the lead-up to 2018 UNGA and World Children’s day in November. H/She will support the Education-Advocacy unit in developing content, particularly for social media, on a range of education-related issues. H/She will report to the Lead of the Education-Advocacy section.

Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision, provide support for the creation of content for the UNICEF Education Twitter handle, including sourcing photographs, videos, and developing media graphics.
  • Craft and develop messages on the focus areas of UNICEF Education’s areas of work.
  • Conduct review of social media analytics, and develop strategies on how to amplify engagement.
  • As needed, provide support in communication strategies related to special events.
  • As needed, conduct research on partners and education-related content.
  • Other duties as assigned.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you …

  • Must be currently enrolled in or within 2 years of graduation from an advanced university degree (Master’s), preferably in Communications, Journalism, International Relations or relevant field. A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • Some professional experience in advocacy and communications with non-profits or the UN system is an advantage.
  • Strong experience with Social Media engagement, particularly Twitter and other social media tools, for disseminating messages and promoting content for public engagement.
  • Strong familiarity with Twitter Analytics, and an ability to review and use analytic data to inform online advocacy strategies.
  • Experience in using digital media and graphic design tools.
  • Experience with writing, editing and basic research.
  • Excellent written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of international development and humanitarianism a plus.
  • Full knowledge of Microsoft systems, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Knowledge of current trends in online communication is an advantage.
