The post is located in Communication, Advocacy and Partnership Section of Kenya Country Office. It reports to the Communication Specialist, NOC, and contributes to achievement of KCO goals through developing and implementing digital communication strategy.

Purpose for the job

Assists in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating an advocacy and communication strategy to get children's and women's issues into the public domain, the digital space and strengthen the participation of children and young people in protecting their rights, mobilize support for UNICEF's mission and objectives in the country; and enhance the organization's credibility and brand.

 

  1. Communication strategy: The production of communication products and materials are timely executed and followed up to support country communication strategy, regional and global campaigns and priorities, and to support resource mobilization as set out in the work plan.
  2. Digital Communication: Digital Media Strategy in place enabling effective and timely digital communication plans and strategies for all Country Office advocacy initiatives, campaigns and regional and global priority moments. Enhanced social media and website reach and engagement to galvanize overall support and strengthen UNICEF's online presence.
  3. Youth Engagement and Children's Participation: Children and adolescents are supported and given an opportunity for meaningful engagement in different spheres of influence to promote and safeguard their rights. Established strategic partnerships with key organizations and Government to promote and enhance the participation of children and young people; and the formation of innovative alliances and movements.
  4. Brand Management and Design: Implementation of the new global UNICEF brand strategy in compliance with the Global Regulatory Framework and the production of high-quality communication materials, collateral, and public-facing design works that comply with brand principles and approved manual. UNICEF's strengthened brand awareness as a trusted organization that drives change for every child.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field. *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of Two years practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media. Field work experience is desirable.
  • Background/familiarity with Emergency situations is desirable
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
