How can you make a difference?

The Communication Section, UNICEF Thailand Country Office is seeking an individual consultant to provide support to UNICEF’s campaigns and events on media engagement and content production activities.

Work Assignment:

Under the supervision of the Communication Officer (Media), the consultant will work closely with Senior Communication Associate and Communication Specialist.  The consultant will perform the following tasks:

  • Drafting and translating media engagement materials including invitations, press releases, and briefing materials; working with PR agencies when appropriate; monitoring media and improving media measurement efforts. In addition, the consultant will be responsible for the production of written, and audio-visual content in support of priority campaigns and initiatives.
    • Maintain and update media relations contact list/database. Ensure rapid and accurate information dissemination to the media.
    • Map existing and potential media relationships and partnerships.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining close collaboration with mass media, as well as with groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives.
    • Assist in drafting and editing articles, press releases, and other advocacy/information materials both English and Thai languages.
    • Assist in collaborating with the PR agencies and media through activities such as organizing press conference, project site visits, facilitating photo coverage and TV footage.
    • Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials, suggest ways of improving media monitoring efforts.
    • Support the implementation of the Child-Friendly Media Mobilization programme aimed at promoting ethical reporting on children among local media. This includes child rights training for media professionals.
    • Identify content production needs, across formats and platforms and in close collaboration with Communication team.
    • Work with photographers, videographers and writers, to support the production of human interest stories, videos and photo essays.
    • Review and edit Thai translation of fundraising materials. Ensure that the requests are completed by deadlines.
    • Ensure that photo sets submitted by photographers are well-captioned.

 

Work Schedule and Deliverables:

The consultant would be paid on a monthly basis upon completion of the assignments and submission of deliverable report:

Month 1:

  • Finalize contract for media monitoring agencies.
  • Update media list and mapping of existing and potential media partners.
  • Work with partners to prepare for media workshop on child rights and ethical reporting.
  • Assist in logistics and arrangements for any media engagement activities.
  • Establish connection with key journalists.
  • Monitor media coverage and ensure quality of media analysis report.

Month 2:

  • Facilitate media workshop on child rights and ethical reporting.
  • Assist in the development of media plan/work with PR agency in preparation for UNICEF major events such as the World Children’s Day, closing of #EatPlayLove Expo, 70 years anniversary and other related events.
  • Production of content for upcoming initiatives as per production plan.
  • Support the production of at least one videos/photo essay and story.
  • Assist in logistics and arrangements for any media engagement activities.
  • Establish connection with key journalists.
  • Monitor media coverage and ensure quality of media analysis report.

Month 3:

  • Production of content for upcoming initiatives as per media and production plan.
  • Internal coordination to ensure full implementation of agreed activities for key events including the World Children’s Day, closing of #EatPlayLove Expo and 70 years anniversary.
  • Support the production of one Direct Mailer and/or other fundraising content.
  • Support the production of at least one videos/photo essay and story.
  • Assist in logistics and arrangements for any media engagement activities.
  • Establish connection with key journalists.
  • Monitor media coverage and ensure quality of media analysis report.

Month 4:

  • Provide support for communication activities for 70 years anniversary and other related events.
  • Production of content for upcoming initiatives as per production plan.
  • Support the production of one Direct Mailer and/or other fundraising content.
  • Support the production of at least one videos/photo essay and story.
  • Assist in logistics and arrangements for any media engagement activities.
  • Establish connection with key journalists.
  • Monitor media coverage and ensure quality of media analysis report.

Month 5:

  • Provide support for content development and media engagement plan for the launch of the EatPlayLove expo 2019.
  • Assist in logistics and arrangements for any media engagement activities.
  • Establish connection with key journalists.
  • Monitor media coverage and ensure quality of media analysis report.
  • Support the production of one Direct Mailer and/or other fundraising content.
  • Finalization of mapping, contacts list, and long-term engagement plan.

 

Estimated Duration of Contract:  5 months with possibility of extension.

 

Official Travel:  Travel may be required in agreement with supervisor.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Communication, journalism, production or other related field.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in media outreach and engagement.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in producing high quality written and audio-visual communication content for use across formats and platforms.
  • Tactful, confident, and possessing strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Having a positive, “can-do” approach.
  • Flexibility to travel to within Thailand, and internationally if required.
  • Thai Nationals.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written Thai and English.
  • Good planning, organizing and networking skills.
  • Computer proficiency and good knowledge of computer applications.
