The Executive Office

The Executive Director (ED), UNOPS, reports directly to the Secretary-General, and is responsible for the development of the vision and strategic direction of UNOPS and the overall management of the organization in accordance with the UNOPS and United Nations principles and accountability framework.

To ensure maximum efficiency and efficacy, the ED establishes the goals, strategies, priorities and operational plans of action, decides on the resources required for its operational needs, sets organizational policies, procedures and standards of ethics and performance and provides moral and technical leadership throughout all layers and hierarchy within UNOPS to ensure the achievement of objectives in accordance with its mission, goals and objectives and the highest standards of performance, ethics and integrity.

Corporate Strategy

In meeting these responsibilities, the Executive Director is, inter alia, supported by the Corporate Strategy (CS) function, embedded in the Partnerships and Liaison Group. CS provides a range of strategy and governance related support for the ED, Deputy Executive Director (DED) and senior management of UNOPS.

CS is responsible for leading and managing the execution of a variety of activities relating to strategy setting and review, result-based management and monitoring, policy development, process management and quality assurance of external formal communications, external oversight and governance arrangements.

The Partnerships and Liaison Group

The Partnerships and Liaison Group (PLG) supports UNOPS efforts to build closer ties with partners across the full spectrum of UNOPS activities. By forging strategic relationships and working with partners, both in the field and at headquarters, PLG seeks to not only ensure high partners satisfaction with UNOPS project implementation and support, but also to integrate best practices and innovative solutions from experienced non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the private sector into UNOPS operations. Based in Copenhagen, PLG has liaison offices in Amman, Bangkok, Brussels, Geneva, Nairobi, Tokyo and Washington DC, and supports partners such as the World Bank, the European Union, the United Nations Environment Programme, UNHCR, WHO, UN-Habitat, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Islamic Development Bank, national governments and others.




Functional Responsibilities

This position will be under the supervision of the two groups focusing on partnerships liaison work as well as corporate strategy. Under the direction of the Head of Partnerships Development, the incumbent will primarily:

  • support the team in coordination efforts among the different liaison teams,
  • partake in analytical support on UNOPS engagement with existing partners
  • reinforce the teams outreach capacity to new partners, and
  • support the ongoing Nordic initiatives.

Under the direction and guidance of the Head, CS the Coordination and Management Analyst will provide substantive and analytical support, including quantitative and qualitative analysis to inform senior management decision making on matters of strategy and governance. The responsibilities of the Coordination and Management Analyst include, but are not limited to:

  • Support preparing and conducting the organizational strategic planning and review processes.
  • Support quantitative and qualitative analysis to inform and support the development, formulation and review of organizational strategy, and related governance initiatives
  • Provide communication support for strategy and governance initiatives; including designing communication strategies, stakeholder engagement plans and drafting internal communication content.
  • Support assessment and analysis of performance against strategic goals.
  • Contribute to CS project management, including coordination of inputs and reports.
  • Undertake a variety of research and make technical contributions to components of projects.
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with supporting functions across the organisation.
  • Coordinate planning and implementation of  external advisory committees meeting
  • Other responsibilities and tasks as assigned

Monitoring and Progress Control

The Coordination and Management Analyst will be continously briefed on individual and group performance throughout the year, inter alia, in the weekly team meetings.

Formal monitoring and progress control will take place according to relevant directives and instructions.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education 

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) preferably in Political/Social Science, Business/Public Administration, or related field is required.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor Degree with additional two years of relevant working experience may also be considered.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years relevant working experience is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Applications including Excel and PowerPoint, including the ability to present data in a clear and meaningful way is required.
  • Experience in developing and executing communication and stakeholder engagement strategies is an asset.
  • Previous experience working in a global or international organisation is an asset.
Language requirements
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
