Business and Quality Analyst

1.     Organizational Context



a.    Organizational Setting


The position is located in the IP Office Business Solutions Division. This section is responsible for the design, development and support of complex software applications to enable intellectual property offices and copyright institutions to automate their processes and provide better services to their members and users. These software applications support the business processes of the relevant institutions and are deployed primarily in developing countries.



b.    Purpose Statement


As Business and Quality Analyst, the incumbent is responsible of the Requirements Analysis, Specification and Quality Assurance of the delivered products. The activities include the implementation of professional analysis, specification and quality assurance processes and tools following industry best-practices and methodologies; the coordination of the related activities with contributors; and the contribution to the business analysis activities with the product owners.



c.    Reporting Lines


The incumbent works under the supervision of the Head of the Copyright Institution Support Section, in close coordination with other members of the division and other sectors of the Organization.



2.      Duties and Responsibilities


The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:


a.   Prepare requirements analysis and technical specification documentation in coordination with product owners, including drafting product roadmaps, release strategies, support strategies and other related business analysis documentation.


b.   Based on industry best-practices and methodologies, design, document and implement professional software quality processes and tools for the main products of the division - especially the products dedicated to the IP offices and to the copyright collective management organizations.


c.   Coordinate the quality assurance activities of the products, oversee the test campaigns, participate to them on ad-hoc basis, and produce operational and executive reports to the other members of the division and to the management.


d.   Prepare product documentation in coordination with the product owners, including contribution to documentation such as manuals, walk through or tutorial videos.


e.   Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and methodologies for delivering and supporting complex software applications and contribute to activities to integrate new methodologies, guidelines and procedures into the projects of the Division.


f.    Participate to the product support activities.


g.   Perform other job-related duties as required.



3.      Requirements



Education (Essential)

University degree in computer science, information science or other related discipline.


Education (Desirable)

Project management certification (PRINCE2, PMP or equivalent).


Experience (Essential)

At least 6 years of experience in the provision of IT services, of which at least two years of business analysis and quality assurance. 
Experience in business industry analysis. 
Experience or knowledge in project management methodologies and best practices.


Experience (Desirable)

Experience in fields related to intellectual property in general (patent, trademark, copyright).
Experience in working with near shore or off shore external contractors.
Experience in designing de-centralized data management systems.
Experience in designing cloud-hosted systems.


Language (Essential)

Excellent written and spoken English.


Language (Desirable)

Good knowledge of at least one UN official language other than English.


Job Related Competencies (Essential)

Good knowledge of business analysis methodologies
Good knowledge of software quality processes and tools (such as Jira)
Sound knowledge of modern information technologies such as relational database management systems, Java, JSP, J2EE, node, cloud computing and advanced HTML techniques and concepts (Javascript, CSS, HTML, etc.).
Project management skills, especially in working within diverse teams of technical and business staff
Sound knowledge of software engineering methodologies
Ability to communicate on technical and business issues with a diverse audience
Analytical and organizational skills
Interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity


Job Related Competencies (Desirable)

Knowledge of music or creative industry (production, publishing, collective management, etc.).
Knowledge of industrial property systems (patent, trademark, design).
Data synchronization, data deduplication or single instance data storage.
