Background Information - Job-specific

In April 2017, UNOPS in close cooperation with the Sweden Police launched EU-funded project “Support to Police Reform in Ukraine” aiming at strengthening community policing in mid-sized towns in the Kyiv, Kharkiv and Lviv regions and support the reform of public order policing in Ukraine. The project includes refurbishment of 20 district police stations, delivery of specialized vehicles for police. Personal protective equipment for police officers, implementation of local initiatives (grants) for strengthening the partnership between police and communities.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Project Manager, the intern duties include support to the project with implementation of the following activities

1. General administration:

  • Registry maintenance, contacts’ records and filing, and general services;
  • travel and events administration, administrative surveys, transportation services and insurance, space management, procurement of supplies;
  • minor translations of the documents e.g. information notes, letters and meetings’ protocols upon request;
  • organization of the project meetings, drafting the dissemination of the meeting minutes;
  • communication with project partners, including preparation of the reports, informational notes for project partners, letters, presentations etc.;
  • maintaining the project archive and records in line with UNOPS policies and practices;
  • Updating the project documents, including implementation plans, communication strategy, quality registers, HR plans, procurement plans etc.

2. Training components and learning elements:

  • Learn the structure, mechanisms, policies and practice areas of UNOPS;
  • Participate in dedicated trainings in-house and UNOPS online learning tools;
  • Participate in project and administration working groups.

3. Participation in missions or training courses:

  • The duties are Kiev-based. Missions outside Kiev region are not foreseen but are possible as allowed by UNOPS policies, if such support is required for assessment work.

4. Additional comments:

  • The internship is offered at part-time, allowing for flexibility with studies. The intern will work in UNOPS office in Kiev from Monday to Friday 50% part-time.

Education

The intern must at the time of application be enrolled in the final academic year of a second university degree program or higher at the Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Project Management, Social Work and Administration of related fields (Master’s or Ph.D.’s), or has graduated with a university degree in the mentioned fields (minimum Bachelor’s level) within three years of graduation.


Experience

Experience of working in a project environment will be an advantage.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point) is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Project desirable.

Languages

Fluency in written and oral English and Ukrainian required. Knowledge of Russian desirable.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend  from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, if applicable, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
