UNICEF is looking for an intern to support the Division of Finance and Administrative Services (DFAM). The intern will have the opportunity, through working in the office, to learn about UNICEF’s mission, its various programs, how it operates globally and will be exposed to working in an international environment. This role will further develop analytical and transactional skills while allowing participation in project work and providing support to senior colleagues.

UNICEF's Division of Financial and Administrative Management (DFAM) is comprised of four sections; Accounts, Finance, Budget and Admin. DFAM/Accounts is primarily responsible for preparation of IPSAS financial statements as well as for oversight of accounting performed by offices worldwide.

For financial closures, DFAM/Accounts collects financial reporting information from UNICEF country offices using a web based application platform Microsoft SharePoint. Financial Closure schedules uploaded by UNICEF country offices as well as management reports derived from SAP on DFAM Dashboard are major monitoring tools of accuracy, completeness and timeliness of financial transactions.

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF is looking for an intern to support the Division of Finance and Administrative Services (DFAM). The intern will have the opportunity, through working in the office, to learn about UNICEF's mission, its various programs, how it operates globally and will be exposed to working in an international environment.   This role will further develop analytical and transactional skills while allowing participation in project work and providing support to senior colleagues.

The Intern will be responsible for assisting with year-end activities in area of revenue recognition of contribution agreements as well as the design of finance training material under the responsibility of the Financial Reporting Unit

Tasks include:

  • Assist the Financial Reporting Unit in reviewing the donor agreements signed in 2018 with a list of framework agreements checklist to ensure that financial clauses in the specific agreements are consistent with the framework agreements.
  • Support the Financial Reporting Unit in reviewing a sample of specific agreements and reconciling the amount recognized in the financial statements in accordance with the UNICEF revenue recognition policy.
  • Prepare, or assist with the preparation of finance training and the conversion of PowerPoint training to Agora course, using Adobe Captivate tool or Articulate 360.
  • Any other projects as identified by the supervisor

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Be enrolled in a programme at the Masters level, preferably in Accounting, Finance, legal or Business Administration
  • University Degree in Accounting, finance, legal or related subject
  • The knowledge of rapid response authoring software/tool that is used to create eLearning content such as demonstrations, software simulations, and quizzes such as Adobe Captivate tool or Articulate 360 is considered an asset.
  • Managing resources - Organizes and manages information to achieve defined goals and optimum results.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills able to work well in a team environment.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (French or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
