STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or other field relevant to national development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Language:   Fluency (level C) in French language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of English.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Collate and analyze data and contribute to the preparation of reports relating to food quality and safety, to inform risk management and mitigation and contribute to a WFP wide view of food technology activities.
2. Prepare evidenced based recommendations for senior staff on control measures to combat and reduce food commodity losses and food quality and safety issues.
3. Prepare evidenced based recommendations for senior staff on tools to enable rapid response to situations with food safety concerns.
4. In the event of food safety incidents, support investigation exercises to enable lessons learned to be documented and shared, to reduce re-occurrence of the incident.
5. Support country office teams on the food technology aspects of food assistance programs, ensuring compliance with WFP food and safety regulations.
6. Contribute towards the development and/or implementation of protocols and tools relating to food technology issues, ensuring alignment with WFP procurement and supply chain strategy, policies and plans.
7. Support the capacity building of WFP staff and partners for efficient and effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries (e.g. through the design and review of training materials).
8. Identify and build productive relationships with supply chain colleagues and staff within the area of assignment to support an integrated approach to food assistance.
9. Guide and supervise more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries.
10. Follow emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP are able to quickly respond and deploy food and needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.
11. Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

This job holder is a national Food Technologist, reporting to the Head of Sub office of Dori. He operates with a high degree of independence, may provide technical support to specific food processing initiatives, and is involved in daily activities and analytical work.

JOB PURPOSE

To collect, analyze and report on information as a basis for maximizing the efficiency of food technology activities and enhancing food risk assessment and management in country operations.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

1. Ensure the daily monitoring of the milk project products quality
2. Monitor regularly compliance of the yogurt project with WFP quality standards through the value chain (milk receipt, microbiological and toxicological tests, processing-production and packaging, transport / delivery, distribution and consumption)
3. Identify the Milk Processing Units needs and provide support to these partners
4. Provide evaluation, inspection and monitoring support to the milk supply chain including suppliers and distribution partners
5. Monitor project risks and provide advices to manage them, while ensuring that losses are minimized
6. Analyze the LNSP reports on microbiological tests and provide suggestions for milk products quality improvement
7. Provide recommendations for the improvement of the milk value chain, including production, storage, packaging and delivering of yogurt, maintaining an adequate cold yogurt
8. Correct and give feedback on the narrative reports of the Junior Food Technologist , focusing on technical aspects of the project, including daily Situation Report
9. Produce daily Reports on the implementation of the milk project
10. Support the designing and the implementation of the milk project scaling up strategy
11. Update the milk project Monitoring and Evaluation database
12. Support the Milk Processing Units in training and implementation of the Quality Management System
13. Contribute to the country office reports preparation and project documents designing
14. Contribute to the review and analysis of the cooperating partners reports
15. Provide support to the Milk Processing Units on management of their resources and organizations
16. Support the country office in all activities requiring food technologist technical advice
17. Represent WFP in meetings related to food quality concerns
