Background

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a protection of human rights framework, since the beginning of the conflict, DRC has worked in Yemen responding to the protection and assistance needs of IDPs, in collaboration with key national and international protection agencies.

 Purpose

The social worker position is critical to DRC humanitarian response to internal displacement in Yemen. It is a key DRC position, with DRC expecting that the post holder with be qualified and possess protection skills, knowledge and attitude to be immediately effective in the field. These include the active involvement and the full participation by all community members, paying special attention to women.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Strengthening, establishing women committee and identifying appropriate sites to set up women centres
  • Oversee the management, day to day running of the women community centres.
  • Carrying out service mapping (psychosocial, medical, legal) and developing a referral system identified vulnerable case to service providers in collaboration with the GBV sub-cluster.
  • Carry out one -to- one and group psychosocial support sessions to the target community.
  • Ensuring proper case management in in line with international standards Interagency case management guidelines.
  • Capacity building on GBV to DRC teams and volunteers through trainings, mentorship and follow up
  • Ensuring compliance with Humanitarian and Protection principles standards in the program activities.
  • Establish support groups in the community affected by conflict.
  • Working closely with the IDPs community, to identify particularly vulnerable individuals and together with the supervisor develop strategies and means to assist them.
  • Protection monitoring on GBV and protection issues affecting women and girls and developing appropriate responses.
  • Conduct field visits to assess the protection needs and concerns of the target population, with particular attention to especially vulnerable persons;
  • Regularly send reports on protection trends and incidents faced by IDPs and local communities;
  • AOB as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, Psychology, community development, law or related fields.
  • 2 years of experience working with international NGOs, particularly in GBV and Protection.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in Protection & Human Rights, GBV, community-based approaches and case management in a humanitarian context.
  • Demonstrating practical experience in humanitarian principles and protection principles.
  • Proper understanding and application of client centred approach in proving assistance.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of the IASC GBV case management guidelines.
  • Experience in working with women and girls focus group discussions, analysing information provided and drafting reports.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Professional English desired and preferred.
  • Basic monitoring and evaluation experience.
