Description:

Child protection is part of DRC Yemen’s programme sector portfolio. Through its child protection programming, DRC promotes the protection and welfare issues of children affected by the armed conflict including Gender based violence by offering victim assistance, Psychosocial support, case management and referrals and follow up. This is done through community-based approaches.

The Child Protection officer is responsible for supporting for the local partner and Child protection field team in carrying out field-based activities, contributing to and preparing draft reports, building capacity of local partners, supporting community Based protection committees, participating in community events. The officer also supports the Coordinator and Manager in developing training modules and conducting trainings and awareness sessions to partners and community members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of the Child Protection Coordinator, work with the Child Protection Assistants to provide appropriate capacity building to DRC partners, community volunteers, community-based Child Protection Committee members, and the community social workers.
  • Provide technical support and supervision to child protection assistants and partners to ensure quality assurance, including setting standards of operation and daily and weekly work plans for all activities relating to child protection; ensure mainstreaming of GBV issues across child protection activities.
  • Liaising with local government authorities, NGOs, CBOS, community leaders in strengthening child protection services networks to enhance child protection in the governorate
  • Establish new and strengthen existing referral and response networks with relevant partners able to provide medical, psychosocial, legal, and livelihood child protection assistance including GBV.
  • Conduct training and capacity building of local partners and volunteers for effective child protection responses.
  • Establish / strengthen protection monitoring in the governorate identifying children in need for assistance and referral.
  • Carry out regular community participatory child protection risk mapping in the governorate.
  • Performance management and capacity development of the protection Assistants.
  • Monitor grave violations against children identifying children affected in these violations for assistance.
  • Any other duties as required by supervisor.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, community development, law or related fields.

     

  • Minimum three years’ working experience, with two in a relevant field such as social work.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in child protection, community-based approaches and case management.
  • Demonstrating practical experience in humanitarian principles and protection principles.
  • Ability to travel and work will with communities and government counterparts.
  • Documented supervision experience.
  • Basic monitoring and evaluation experience.
  • Professional experience highly desired.

The proposed employment conditions are based on DRC policy and Yemeni labor law. The selected candidate shall perform his/her duties in compliance with the DRC Code of Conduct and procedures at all times. Female candidates are encouraged to apply. The position is field oriented with over 75% time spent in the field.
