Job Description

  Under the guidance of the Child Protection (CP) Manager, the Child Protection Senior Case Management Officer, and the Senior Social Worker, the Child Protection Social Worker will identify, document, and manage cases of unaccompanied and separated children, as well as other vulnerable children in Ninewa governorate, providing timely and quality support to children and their families.

In support of this activity, the Child Protection Social Worker, with the support of the Child Protection Senior Case Management Officer, will coordinate with relevant child protection actors and service providers, child protection committees, and members of the IDP communities to support individual cases and, where appropriate, arranging and supporting care. The position will be based in Sinjar. Occasional travel to other areas within Ninewa may also be required.


·Assess protection issues, develop, and implement case plans with unaccompanied and separated children and other vulnerable children including full documentation and follow up, psychosocial care and referral.

· Work with the Senior Social Worker to create effective work plans and monitoring tools for case management activities.

· Liaise with relevant child protection agencies and other stakeholders such as the Child Protection Sub Working on the issue of unaccompanied and separated children and other child protection issues.

·Advocate with service providers on behalf of children and their families to access support and services

·Monitor and document work using the child protection information management system in support of high quality child protection reporting. Submit weekly reports to the Child Protection Senior Case Management Officer and/or Senior Social Worker.

·Work with children and agencies to take follow up action based on recommendations made by the best interest determination panel.

·Collaborate with the Child Protection Senior Case Management Officer to ensure that supplies are available for child protection activities in a timely manner and resources are available to support events, trainings, workshops conducted by outside consultants/experts.

· Provide continuous feedback to the Child Protection Manager, Senior Social Worker Senior Officer on any challenges in the work implementation to be addressed directly with corrective steps/measures if needed.

·Ensure Case management database is regularly updated and submitted to the Senior Officer and Senior Social worker on a bi-weekly basis.

·Provide regular inputs for monitoring and reporting purposes.

·Collaborate with the Senior Social Worker to facilitate regular one-on-one meetings, observation of sessions and case reviews.

·Liaise with senior Social Worker and Child Protection manager to ensure technical oversight and support is received.

·Ensure compliance with IRC policies and protocols of confidentiality, respect and safety.

·Perform other duties, as needed or requested by the supervisor.

·Bachelor degree is favorable, diploma, working experience, Social work background preferred.

·Prior professional experience in a similar post is an asset.

·Previous work experience with children is an asset.

·Arabic & Kurdish language are required. English is an asset.

·Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing professional environment with a view towards establishing administrative procedures and protocol that will ensure optimal functioning of the Operation.

·Good interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.

·Ability to maintain the highest degree of discretion.
