The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Risk Management Directorate – Operations Department – Structured Finance & Equity Division – Structured Finance Unit, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a:

(Senior) Structured Finance Credit Risk Officer

This is a full time position at grade 5/6

The term of this contract will be 4 years

Panel interviews are anticipated for the beginning/ mid-November.

The EIB offers fixed-term contracts of up to a maximum of 6 years, according to business needs,

with a possibility to convert to a permanent contract, subject to organisational requirements and individual performance.

Purpose

The Structured Finance and Equity Division is currently looking for credit risk officers to be responsible for Project finance / structured debt.

You will provide independent credit opinions on new project finance and structured debt operations as well as on post signature events and restructuring proposals received from the front office and monitoring functions in the Bank. You will have responsibility for monitoring the credit quality of a portfolio of loans, in accordance with the EIB's guidelines and procedures.  The role also involves review of legal documentation and contributions to internal rating methodologies and credit risk policies and procedures.

Operating Network

As a (Senior) Structured Finance Credit Risk Officer, internally referred to as (Senior) Officer Credit Risk Management, you will report to the Head of Structured Finance Unit. You will work in close cooperation with the other Division members and there will be extensive contacts with colleagues internally within other Directorates, notably within Risk Management and other Directorates such as Front Office Lending, Legal, Portfolio Management and Restructuring.

Specific Post Environment (if applicable)

You will be expected to work on several projects in parallel with a large degree of autonomy. Ability to analyse complex financing proposals and propose solutions is key.

The role involves extensive interaction with colleagues in other Directorates for which strong interpersonal and communication skills are crucial.    

Accountabilities

  • Independently assess the credit risks of proposed operations, prepare credit opinions and recommendations on such proposals and decide on associated risk ratings and pricing (where applicable).
  • When necessary, advise colleagues from  other departments with regard to credit issues and risks.
  • Comment and sign off on legal documentation from a credit standpoint.
  • Give second opinions on key post signature events including restructurings.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the Bank’s credit risk policies and the development of relevant methodologies and working tools.

Qualifications

Prior credit risk management experience is not a vital pre-requisite. If you do not have direct credit risk experience but have a deep understanding of credit risk in project finance or other limited recourse lending through origination, structuring, or consulting work you are encouraged to apply.

  • University degree, preferably in finance or a business related field. Postgraduate education in a related subject would be an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience depending on the grade of the role offered.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and commenting on complex legal structures
  • Knowledge of standard computer tools.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French(*), with a good knowledge of the other. (Knowledge of other EU languages would be an asset).
