The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill a consultancy position of ABAP Backend Senior Developer based at our Headquarters in Rome, Italy. Duration of assignment 11 months.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of WINGS Services - TECD, the Consultant will be a key team member in the design, implementation, operation and optimization of the IT services and WINGS solutions to support WFP HQ and field offices worldwide. The SAP Technical Analyst and Developer will work on WINGS related Projects, executing the technical design, the development and the test of the SAP functionality required to align the business improvement requirement not available through standard SAP functionality. 

The incumbent will be responsible for the following specific tasks:

  • Support the functional analyst participating to the functional design of the SAP developments related, but not limited to the following Projects: LESS (Logistics Execution Support System), LESS last mile mobile app and exposure of SAP backend data to external systems.
  • Develop SAP objects including completing technical design specifications, coding and testing of custom objects based on functional design specification related to the above Projects.
  • Development and/or maintenance of SAP procedures and reports developed with the SAP standard tools.
  • Configuration and customization of standard SAP workflows to support the Business in automating routine and repetitive activities, such as documents approvals and Self-Service processes.
  • Modification of existing SAP routines and tables necessary to support the new process implemented, following the specifications from the SAP business analysts.
  • Ensure efficient coding on modified or custom programs.
  • Maintain interfaces to other systems.
  • Provide cross-functional problem identification and resolution.
  • Support the different project teams during test and Go-Live.
  • Other duties as required.

Deliverables:

  • Technical specification released;
  • Application development release, tested and documented.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Education:

  • University degree in Computer Sciences, IT Engineering, Mathematics/Physics or related fields (desired).

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, in providing IT services/solutions within an organization and proven record of accomplishment in development and implementation of SAP applications.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Good general IT skills with strong skill level in software solution development. 
  • Specialised expertise in SAP technical Design and SAP developments.Strong technical skills in all areas of the ABAP Workbench, specifically: List, Interactive and ALV reporting; BAPIs and BDC scripts;
  • User-Exits and Customer Enhancements (Customer Functions and BADIs); Performance  tuning; ALE/IDoc Interface Development; Dialog programming; ABAP Objects; Workflow
  • Familiar with OData web service deployment and development for SAP data integration and exposure.
  • Excellent experience with the SAP standard Data Migration tools such as LSMW, BDC and direct input.
  • Experience with an SAP implementation, SAP upgrade, production support and multiple full-cycle implementations.
  • Experience working on environments in version ECC 6.0 and above.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, and good customer service orientation.
  • Excellent skills in changing standard SAP ABAP workflows, customizing and creating brand new ABAP Workflows using standard SAP transactions like the Workflow builder.
  • Experience in researching and applying OSS Notes.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand concepts and problem-solving using a wide variety of internal and external resources
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse, troubleshoot and identify corrections for all technical objects
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

   Language:

  • Fluency in oral and written English with an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable. Proficiency in Italian is also an asset.
