The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until July 31, 2019. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Duhok, Iraq. Taking the security situation into account, frequent travel to and overnight stays in Sinuni will be required.

The objectives are to manage and implement projects on the basis of specified directives in terms of content, schedule and budget. This BMZ-funded project comprises agriculture, rural development and the rehabilitation of communal agricultural infrastructure (Cash for Work activities). The measures focus on business development support for farmers to kick-start their own agricultural businesses, along with trainings on topics such as resource-efficient technologies, modern farming methods and nutrition with special attention given to female-headed households.

Your responsibilities

• Carry out the project(s) according to the rules and standards of the co-financing donors and Welthungerhilfe (WHH) standards for the implementation of projects
• Ensure that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring, logistics, finance administration, etc.)
• Continuously adjust planning and monitor the project budget
• Develop needs based & impact oriented project planning in the context of the ongoing project (in line with WHH and country strategies)
• Support the identification of co-financing opportunities to be pursued and ensures the timely development of successful project proposals in line with the relevant donor regulations and strategies
• Establish good working relationships with donors and other stakeholders in-country for emergency, rehabilitation and development programmes in coordination with the Country Office
• Report to the Country Director on the progress of the project(s) and all risks associated with the project work
• Develop and implement a preparedness plan
• Coordinate and implement activities with local partner organizations, including formal capacity building of partner as well as training on the job
• Develop a mid-term agricultural intervention strategy
• Initiate the formation of CBO, support communities / producers in setting up self-help groups

Your profile

• A University degree (Master degree or equivalent) in humanitarian/development studies or other relevant field
• Solid knowledge in the value chain approach
• Experience in fruit and vegetable production, poultry farming and irrigation at commercial as well as household level
• Excellent team building and management skills
• Ability to cope with stress and the capacity to work and live in a sometimes challenging environment
• Fluency in English and preferably very good knowledge of German
