OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Goal of the MVIP is to provide an updated WHO policy recommendation on the use of the RTS,S malaria vaccine in young children in sub-Saharan Africa. The strategic objective is to provide timely availability of pilot implementation evidence on RTS,S feasibility, impact, and safety for submission to the WHO‘s SAGE/MPAC aiming for final data submission in 2022. To accomplish this, WHO will work with the European Medicines Agency, National Regulatory Authorities of the three countries (Ghana, Kenya and Malawi) to support the joint review of article 58 reports and other relevant documents and to provide special authorization of the RTS,S vaccine for use exclusively in the MVIP and work with the national EPI and other partners, to provide oversight and monitor adverse events following immunization.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Regulatory and Safety Lead, MVIP in AFRO, the Technical Officer will carry out the following functions related to Vaccine Regulation and Safety\:--> Serve as the Regional Focal point for the regulatory work of supporting the MVOP;--> Support country vaccine approval processes by NRAs and issuance of import permits for RTS,S for use in the MVIP Pilot implementations; --> Support implementation of national pharmacovigilance and safety readiness of the three countries for RTS,S vaccine pilot; --> Compile reports on regulatory and safety monitoring activities by the NRAs;--> Create collaboration between immunization, NRAs, pharmacovigilance centres for successful safety reporting of the pilot implementation of RTS,S. Promote collaboration between the all stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: Pharmacy degree and Masters' Degree in Public Health or regulation.
Desirable\:

Experience

Essential\: - At least 7 years' experience of relevant work experience at the national and international levels in regulation in low-resource environments in Africa.- Demonstrated experience in working with MOH and partners. - Proven experience to work to deadlines and budgets, in collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders.- Excellent communication skills.- Experience using data for decision making.
Desirable\: Experience in vaccine registration.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 71,332 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3353 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
