OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Department of Information, Evidence and Research (IER) is part of the Health Metrics and Measurement Cluster (HMM). The mission of HMM is to support and strengthen the generation and collection, analysis, use and dissemination of data and evidence and promote better evidence-informed decision-making in Member States. Furthermore, HMM aims to build capacity in member states to monitor the health of their populations and the impact of health interventions, and to adapt global evidence, including research evidence, as well as local data and research, to inform policy decisions.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent will be required to perform the following duties\:

 

- Provide technical expertise to the maintenance and expansion of the WHO resources and tools on heath inequality monitoring including the WHO Health Equity Monitor and Health Equity Assessment Toolkit.

- Provide input to the development of global and regional thematic inequality reports, health-related SDGs and UHC mainly through relevant health inequality data analayis.

- Contribute to incorporating inequality monitoring into the GPW monitoring framework.

- Perform data management and equity analysis of household health surveys, facility data and other data sources relevant for health inequality monitoring.

- Contribute to capacity building for health inequality monitoring among Member States, including facilitating training workshops, preparing national health inequality reports and developing tools, manuals and guidelines.

- Contribute to fundraising and resource mobilization for health inequality monitoring.

- Provide input to the development of the relevant peer-reviewed journal articles.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: A university degree in epidemiology, public health, health science or related area.

Experience

Essential\:

- A minimum of 5 years public health experience, some of which obtained in an international context.

- Demonstrated experience in data analysis using the statistical package Stata.

- First-hand experience in analysing international household surveys.

- Demonstrated experience in data analysis and data visualization.

- Demonstrated experience with data visualisation software.

- Experience in facilitating training workshops.
Desirable\:

- Excellent verbal and written communication.

- Organizational skills and experience in project management.

- Experience in academic/technical writing.

- Experience in performing systematic literature reviews.

- Experience in international agencies, especially WHO.

Skills

- Good knowledge of health inequality monitoring.

- Good knowledge of statistics as well as research methodology.

- Good understanding of sound principles of statistical information and presentation.

- Good knowledge and understanding of health inequality measurement issues.

-Good knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

- Proficiency in computer software applications to prepare documents, spreadsheets, graphics and presentations.

- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationship within interdisciplinary teams in a multi-cultural environment.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 59,151 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3702 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
