Job Description

CONTEXTUAL BACKGROUND

The Syria crisis is often described as the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the end of the Cold War. Inside Syria, 7.6 million people are internally displaced and 12.2 million are in need of humanitarian assistance, with 4.8 million in hard-to-reach areas. There are 4 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. This is no short-term humanitarian episode. The devastating human consequences to huge numbers of people will endure for decades. The destruction of relationships, communities, livelihoods, homes and infrastructure will take years to repair.

IRC is launching an innovative employment hub that aims to generate at employment opportunities for Jordanians and Syrian refugees in Jordan. The IRC has been operational in Jordan since 2007 and today, the IRC responds to refugees and Jordanians most urgent and sensitive needs, including health care, women’s protection and empowerment, child protection, and economic resiliency. Building off existing IRC Jordan livelihoods and protection programming, the employment hub connects job seekers with available jobs through a network of employment service officers.

Job Overview/Summary:

The Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable transport of IRC staff and guests in accordance with programmatic and operational requirements, ensuring that IRC vehicles are appropriately maintained; and providing support to logistics and administration functions. The Driver will be primarily tasked with transporting the Employment Service Officers to targeted locations to do outreach to job seekers and the private sector partners.The Driver reports to the Operations Officer.

Major Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include:

  • The safe transportation of IRC personnel.
  • The safe transportation of IRC materials.
  • The care and maintenance of IRC vehicles and their accessories.

ExpectedDeliverables

  • Strict adherence to the IRC’s vehicle policies and procedures, including the use of seatbelts by all passengers.
  • Daily and pre-long distance vehicle checks. Accurate upkeep of the vehicle’s log sheet.
  • Maintaining the vehicle, ensuring it is clean, fueled and mechanically sound.
  • Inspecting and maintaining all vehicle accessories.
  • Advising the Transport manager of pending inspections, insurance renewal or any defects or problems.

Internal: The driver will work with the Employment Hub team and all staff related to the hub.


Qualifications

Education:

Secondary school, or high school diploma

Work Experience:

  • Approximately two years of experience.
  • No road safety-related fines or convictions Thorough knowledge of road rules and regulations
  • Skills in routine vehicle maintenance and minor repair
  • Knowledge (or ability to quickly learn) of HF, VHF and satellite communications equipment

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Team spirit and problem solving abilities, and able to carry out limited, un-supervised tasks.
  • Drivers must display an attitude and behavior that reflects well on both themselves and the IRC

Language Skills:Fluency in Arabic and English required.

Working Environment:

The IRC is providing Transport services to the staff, that provide services to Syrian refugee in Mafraq and Ramtha, Amman, and Irbid. This position will be based in Amman office, but will also provide the required services in all IRC sites when needed. The security situation in the IRC intervention areas is generally calm and the security department of IRC shares regular security updates to keep the management and staff informed about the new developments.
