The objective of the assignment is to support UNICEF Ukraine CO in communication the impact of the project, “Strengthening resilience and civic engagement of adolescents and youth in conflict-affected eastern Ukraine,” supported by the European Union.

The objective of the assignment is to support UNICEF Ukraine CO in communication the impact of the project, “Strengthening resilience and civic engagement of adolescents and youth in conflict-affected eastern Ukraine,” supported by the European Union.

The communication activities target audiences within Ukraine and Europe and highlight the positive partnership between UNICEF and the European Union in fulfilling the rights of children affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

The consultant will help to reach the following communication goals, defined in the project communication plan:

- To ensure that the direct beneficiaries of the project, including youth, adolescents and teachers are aware of the support from the EU and UNICEF towards strengthening resilience and civic engagement of adolescents and youth in conflict-affected eastern Ukraine.

- To raise the awareness among policy and decision makers in Ukraine government institutions (Education and related line Ministries, the Parliament) and the civil society on the support from EU and UNICEF towards strengthening resilience and civic engagement of adolescents and youth in conflict-affected eastern Ukraine.

- To communicate to the European general public on the results achieved by the EU-UNICEF support in the emergency response towards strengthening resilience and civic engagement of adolescents and youth in conflict-affected eastern Ukraine.

Deadline 1 December 2018 (10 working days):

1. Support CO with communicating the SCORE Report launch and other project achievements.

  • Three trainings for implementing partners on the project visibility and donor requirements are delivered to ensure that partners appropriately acknowledge support from the EU (2 days).

  • Thematic briefing notes, press- invitations, press release and social media materials on the project activities are prepared (2 days).

  • Press event for the SCORE report launch on 21 November is prepared (3 days).

  • Support to CO in coordination of visibility items production and placement, including visibility of partners is provided, including production of training and communication materials (1 day).

  • A set of pictures to illustrate SCORE report finding is produced in coordination with a professional photographer to ensure visual content that illustrate Project’s results (1 day).

Deadline 1 January 2019 (10 working days):

2. Communication support with the UPSHIFT DemoDay in Kharkiv and other project milestones.

  • Media component for the UPSHIFT DemoDay in Kharkiv including the press event  and press trip for national media, is prepared (4 days).

  • Support CO with preparing media outreach materials and press releases to communicate the success stories of the UPSHIFT participants is provided (2 days).

  • One human interest story and one video on UPSHIFT projects and results are produced (3 days).

  • A set of pictures is produced by professional photographers to illustrate success stories of the UPSHIFT grants (1 day).

Deadline 1 February 2019 (10 working days):

3. Communication support with project initiatives and establishing Media Award for regional media.

  • Support to CO with preparing, organization and communication support advocacy and project management workshops for youth is provided (2 days).

  • Human interest stories on a trail- blazer youth group member / leader who has contributed positively to his community is published (2 days).

  • A set of pictures to illustrate advocacy workshop beneficiaries is produced in coordination with professional photographers to ensure visual content that illustrate Project’s results (1 day).

  • The concept note for Media Awards to recognize local media dedicated to telling the story of youth engagement and participation impact is developed and agreed (2 days).

  • Partnerships with regional NGOs in the frame of the Media Award launch are established (3 days).

Deadline March 2019 (10 working days):

 4. Communication support with project initiatives and announcing Media Award for regional media

  • Support with preparing, organization and announcing the Media Award launch for local media. including the press release preparation and media event, is provided to CO (3 days)
  • One human interest story and one video that feature Life Skills Education beneficiary are developed and published (3 days)
  • A set of pictures is made by a professional photographer to ensure visual content that illustrate Project’s results, including a boy/girl who has successfully used Life Skills Education learnt in school to advance in life (1 day)
  • Support to CO in coordination of visibility items production and placement, including visibility of partners, is provided (1 day)
  • Social media content featuring the project activities is developed and placed on the UNICEF and EU platforms (2 days)

 Deadline April 2019 (10 working days):

5. Communication support with organizing exchange visits for youth activists and field visits for donors.

  • Field visits to communities with active youth groups are organized in coordination with the donor (3 days).
  • Exchange visits for active youth groups are prepared and conducted (2 days).

  • A video that highlights a young recipient of a small grant following launch of an innovative programme is filmed and finalized (2 days).

  • Support to CO with coordination of visibility items production and placement, including visibility of partners is provided (1 day).

  • Quality control is provided to ensure that training and communication materials produced by partners  appropriately acknowledge support from the EU(1 day).

  • Support with social media activities, including drafting and posting content, is provided (1 day).

Deadline May 2019 (10 working days):

6. Сommunication support to CO with organizing Forum on engaging youth in community projects.

  • Production of the video that highlights results and challenges of the project, such as impact of small grants for youth on their communities is coordinated (2 days).

  • Production of pictures professional photographers to ensure visual content that illustrate Project’s results, such as beneficiaries of the small grant programs is coordinated (1 day).

  • Organization of joint field visits with the EU representatives to publicize the progress of the Project is supported (1 day).

  • Social media activities, including drafting and posting content, are supported (1 day).

Deadline June 2019 (10 working days):

7. Support the project with organizing the  Media Awards Ceremony on Resilience and Youth Engagement for local media.

  • Coordination and media outreach for the Media Awards on Resilience / Youth Engagement & Participation stories to recognize local media that tell the stories of youth engagement and participation impact are ensured (10 days).

Deadline July 2019 (10 working days):

8. Support CO with communicating the project finalization, including the final press conference.
  • Press release on the project results is drafted and distributed to the media (1 day)

  • Support with social media activities, including drafting and posting content, is provided (2 days)

  • Infographics on the project results are developed in coordination with the professional designer and project colleagues (3 days)

  • Final Press conference is planned, coordinated and implemented (3 days).

  • Support with social media activities, including drafting and posting content is provided (1 day)

Deadline 1 August 2019 (10 working days):

9. Support CO with content production to feature the project achievements

  • Human interest stories that feature in particular a young recipient of a small grant following launch of an innovative programme are drafted (2 days).
  • Production of a set of photos by professional photographers to ensure visual content that illustrate Project’s results are coordinated, including:
  1. A trail-blazer youth group member / leader who has contributed positively to his community (1 day).
  2. Profile of a youth / adolescent who has taken up entrepreneurial action to address challenges in their communities successfully under the project (1 day).
  • Production of the videos that highlight results and challenges of the project is coordinated, including:
  1. A trail-blazer youth group member / leader who has contributed positively to his community (2 days)
  2. Profile of a youth / adolescent who has taken up entrepreneurial action to address challenges in their communities (2 days) 
  • Support with social media activities, including drafting and posting content, is provided (2 days)

 Deadline 31 August 2019 (10 working days):

10. Support CO with preparing the Communication and Visibility Report.

  • Reporting templates for partners are developed (1 day)
  • Inputs on communication activities are collected from implementing partners and included in the Communication and Visibility report (2 days)
  • Gaps in communication coverage are analysed and communicated to the CO (2 days).
  • Final report on communication and visibility activities of the project is prepared (5 days)

 Note: The assignment includes 40 days of local travel to the field. Total number of working days is 100. Payments to be made monthly upon completion of each deliverable according to schedule.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

1. Education:

Master’s Degree in Journalism, International Relations, Communication, Arts, Social Science.

2. Work experience:

Minimum three years’ work experience in communication design, planning and implementation.

Experience in strategic communication on humanitarian issues, conflict resilience, and youth initiatives will be an asset.                 

3. Expertise and skills required:

Proven ability to work independently, tackle demanding goals and produce timely results and good quality of work. Knowledge of the social, political and economic environment. Experience of working with UNICEF or with UN agencies will be an added advantage. Excellent writing and communication skills in Ukrainian, English.

4. Language requirements:

Language requirements: Ukrainian (fluent), English (fluent) Russian (fluent).
