OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The objective of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) is to foster an effective global research effort on infectious diseases of poverty in which diseases endemic countries play a pivotal role. The objective of the unit is to foster partnerships and collaborations in order to develop, evaluate and optimize research for implementation that generates evidence for the control and/or elimination of diseases of poverty. The objective of the SORT IT AMR project is to build sustainable operational research capacity to generate and utilize evidence on the emergence, spread and health impact of AMR, in order to limit this public health problem.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. To initiate, manage projects and provide technical and scientific guidance related to utilizing operational research for evidence informed decision-making on AMR. Specifically to\:-support the initiation, organization and implementation of activities conducted under the SORT IT initiative applied to AMR; -design, initiate and conduct evidence to policy workshops that are adapted to SORT IT with clear milestones and targets;- build capacity to write policy/ issue briefs by SORT IT participants while interacting with TDR's SORT IT partners and relevant stakeholders;-collaborate and engage with other WHO/HQ units and partnerships, WHO country offices, to gain their input and support for field activities and the translation of research into policy and action. 2. Draft technical reports from the unit and TDR on aspects related to evidence to policy on AMR to be presented to donors, stakeholders or governing bodies.3.Communicate effectively on these activities and contribute to other TDR projects and activities as required.4.Provide support to the management of additional projects as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: Advanced level degree in medicine and/or public health.
Desirable\: PhD in work related to operational /implementation research.

Experience

Essential\: At least 7 years' experience at national and international level on programmes related to operational/implementation research and evidence to policy to LMICS.

-Excellent analytical and organizational skills. -Ability to network and interact with partners.- Sound planning and analytical skills with the ability to work independently and to promote consensus. -Ability to work in a team, and collaborate with other experts and colleagues. - Good communication skills and ability to interact effectively with partners.- Having successfully completed a SORT IT programme and/or having mentored SORT IT courses-Practical knowledge of implementing the SORT IT approach in Low and Middle income countries (LMICs).Practical knowledge of conducting evidence to policy workshops. -Relevant publication track record.- demonstrated ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 71,332 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4464 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
