The Senior Security Guard will be reporting directly to the Safety and Security Associate (SSA), he/she is responsible in assisting the SSA in monitoring the physical security as well as ensuring the compliance with security policies at the UN City, Copenhagen facility as well as being the main security focal point during daily operations at the UNICEF compound.  He/she is expected to take a proactive approach in order to prevent security/safety related incidents to follow operational instructions given by the SSA.

It is the main responsibility of the Senior Security Guard to perform patrols, man the control center and perform post duty both indoor and outdoor at the UN City, Copenhagen complex.  He/she is expected to respond to alarms and incidents in accordance with the instructions and guidelines given in this document and in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the respective post.  The Senior Security Guard is expected to be visible throughout the duration of the shift on a 24/7/365 basis and to report to the supervisor and (if possible) prevent and/or mitigate any event with potential impact on UN operations.  He/she must be prepared to work irregular hours (including night shifts over longer periods).  He/she will also be expected to work independently and make a limited number of decisions in accordance with post orders.

Functional Responsibilities

The duties of the Senior Security Guard include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing indoor and outdoor patrols and screening duties on site as per SOP’s of the designated post.
  • Document all incidents on site relevant to the UN in Daily Activity Report (DAR) and ensure secure storage of any such documentation.
  • Report damages and failures to facilities department and other appropriate contacts.
  • Assist employees, guests and contractors on site in complying with security and access procedures.
  • Assist in case of emergencies and evacuations, (to be dispatched and instructed by SCC).
    • Participate in the 24/7/365 shift rotation between SCC, patrolling and access control.
    • All officers are required to undergo training enabling them to backfill other security departmental task and functions without operational disruption (cross training)
    • Handle mail and delivers same.
    • Ensure continuous operation of the on-site CCTV and access control systems.
    • Report any security incident to the supervisor.
    • In a team of three guards, be the main focal point for daily security operations at the UNICEF compound and be available to assist UNICEF management on all security matters.
    • Identify issues in order to improve daily operations including changes in procedures and SOPs and report these to supervisor.
    • Follow-up on procurements needs regarding security and other necessary equipment at UNICEF and report the needs to the supervisor.
    • Perform tasks not specifically mentioned in these terms of reference, in compliance with the UN Security post orders and as requested by the SSA.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education 
  • A Secondary degree and mandatory AMU-course for Security Officers or relevant UN, police, military or Fire Department training. 
Experience
  • A minimum of one year experience from relevant administrative work with the UN, a security company, the police, the military or the Fire Services is required.

Language skills:

  • Excellent skills in both English & Danish (oral and written).

Legal requirements:

  • No entries in employees criminal record (penal code violations). Record must be provided to department management on an annual basis.
