Are you interested in using your Engineering skills, knowledge and experience within Emergency Response and willing to work anywhere, in challenging circumstances, at a moment's notice?  The British Red Cross Mass Sanitation Module (MSM) 20 Emergency Response Unit (ERU) are currently recruiting for Sanitation Engineers.

The British Red Cross maintains a roster of vetted and trained personnel ready to be deployed anywhere on short notice in response to international emergencies (natural disasters, conflict or smaller-scale emergencies). Missions are typically four weeks and delegates work closely with the local National Society to provide specific services where local infrastructure is damaged, temporarily out of use or insufficient to cope with the needs.

We are looking for Sanitation Engineers with international experience to be part of this on-call team.  You must have a strong technical base and experience of leading emergency sanitation programs, including both hardware and software activities, ideally for international humanitarian organisations. Experience also in water supply and hygiene promotion is strongly preferred. You must be willing to be on call for a minimum of one month per year and travel at short notice (24 - 48 hours) to relief operations during this on-call period.

Roster members must be within 8 hours flight time of London whilst 'on call' and undertaking trainings. Please detail how this applies to you in your supporting statement.

Please note that you must already have the appropriate visa(s) in place to attend the required training and attend briefings within the UK. The British Red Cross is unable to sponsor candidates.

Candidates who are already in employment with other organisations but who can be released at short notice are welcome to apply.

Emergency response delegates will receive the necessary training on emergency response.  However, to be accepted onto the ERU you will be required to attend the following training:

* IMPACT- IMPACT - 11-15 March 2019 - 5 day residential course

* ERU Foundation - 7 -12 April 2019 - 6 day residential course

* Security training - 16-19 May 2019 - 4 day residential course

* MSM Specialist Training - 31 August - 6 September 2019 - 6.5 day residential course

* Driver training - Various dates 2019 - 2 days

Accreditation for prior learning may be considered and exemptions to parts of the above courses may be taken into consideration.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications is 25th November 2018.

Please note successful applicants will be invited to complete a technical test followed by a telephone technical interview. These will be held over November and early December 2018. Candidates who pass these stages of the selection process will be invited to a Selection Day which will be held in London on one of the following dates 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th February 2019.
