OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Division of Information, Evidence, Research & Innovation (DIR) manages information and intelligence generated by the WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO/EURO).
Its main task is to provide Member States and WHO with reliable health intelligence derived from health information, knowledge and evidence on topics that are of interest to both. It coordinates the management of information on health and health systems within WHO/EURO (with all relevant units and country offices) and collaborates closely with national and international partners. 
DIR facilitates this function through databases, publications, professional networks, research and evidence services and knowledge and evidence platforms. This includes the production, translation and dissemination of information by various means.Within DIR, the main tasks of the Library, Languages and Publications team (LLP) are to provide services to the Regional Office in the fields of translation, publication and library services.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Typically, the incumbent performs the following duties\:
Inputs and updates translated/edited/revised drafts of Russian language versions of documentation for sessions of regional governing bodies and conferences, technical documentation, corporate information products (publications), reports, and press and web material in all Regional Office IT applications;
- in agreement with the supervisor, improves Russian texts, ensuring accuracy, readability and clarity;
- proofreads Russian documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, completeness and conformity with approved WHO style;
- finalizes Russian documentation with regard to format and layout (inter alia for printing), including processing of photographic and graphic material;
- assists with design/layout/typography of Regional Office documentation.Processing of translated EURO documents in TRADOS, and updating of the translation memory database by inputting relevant material, also by aligning documents with the help of WINALIGN software;
- in agreement with the other members of the Russian language team, updates the TRADOS terminology database (MULTITERM) according to established rules;
- at the request of members of the Russian language team, provides terminology information and references needed for the translation of Regional Office documentation using Web resources and official background material;
- maintains the Regional Office-wide technical addresses and RC list (TAMASTER) for Russian languages merge letters.Creates, maintains, updates and tests Regional Office templates in Russian.Adheres to regular filing procedures and maintains Russian language team PC files/folders and CDs;Provides guidance to Regional Office staff on text processing software used by the Regional Office.
Performs other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: Equivalent to graduation from secondary school, supplemented by secretarial and/or language training. Excellent mother tongue and very good English language qualifications.Thorough knowledge of WHO and office procedures and operations, rules and regulations. Excellent skills in operating documentation processing equipment. Speed and accuracy in making revisions. Skills in operating translation software e.g. TRADOS.

Experience

Essential\: Thorough knowledge and understanding of a wide range of software programmes/applications and several years' experience in dealing with their technical features. At least two years' experience with documentation processing, preferably with typographical knowledge. Experience in working as part of a team.

Skills

Thorough knowledge of WHO and office procedures and operations, rules and regulations. Excellent skills in operating documentation processing equipment. Speed and accuracy in making revisions. Skills in operating translation software e.g. TRADOS.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at DKK 317,138 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
