Associate Video Editor (PSP)

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Associate Video Editor (PSP) is responsible for ensuring a regular flow of engaging video content to raise private resources for UNHCR, specifically video production for fundraising and supporter engagement. This includes capturing video assets during periodic field missions, repurposing video and re-editing centrally produced material to meet the needs of a wide variety of colleagues and teams, notably the nearly 30 PSP markets and national partners.

This position will report directly to the Fundraising Communication Officer (Content Production) and will work closely with other members of the Marketing and Emergencies team to respond consistently and effectively to the digital video needs of the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) network and global partnerships. The Associate Video Editor (PSP) will also collaborate, liaise with and occasionally manage external videographers and filmmakers to expand and innovate PSP¿s digital video storytelling portfolio.

Specific duties include collection and production of video assets to support frequent content packages, campaigns, special events and other needs with a fundraising angle and/or call to action.

As a member of the PSP team in Copenhagen, this position is responsible for collaborating to increase income to UNHCR through the private sector, including through the development of stronger digital video appeals and stewardship products for the Individual Giving and Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) programmes. While the Associate Video Editor (PSP) is expected to provide innovative digital video approaches to presenting UNHCR¿s work to supporters, his/her work should always support overall goals of acquiring, developing and retaining donors. 

FUNCTIONAL STATEMENT

Accountability
- Digital videos are strategic, engaging and on-brand.
- Dynamic multimedia content that illustrates UNHCR¿s work and catalyzes action from supporters is gathered.

Responsibility
- Develop, produce and edit short monthly supporter/donor engagement videos linked with content themes. Create, produce and edit needs-based and thank-you videos linked with integrated fundraising appeals.
- With the PSP Content Team, identify opportunities for content and go on periodic field missions to collect video assets for production of digital video fundraising assets.
- Support the development and commissioning of video assets for global partnerships as needed.
- Re-version partnerships videos into different langauges as requested and develop video teasers to support partnership campaign materials.
- Repackage centrally produced video assets for use by the network.
- Assist the Fundraising Communications Officer (Content Production) on the effective briefing of external videographers/filmmakers, as required.
- Manage the CAT DV archive system in Copenhagen and liaise with the Video Unit in Geneva to support the effective archiving of PSP-commissioned materials.
- Ensure the effective distribution of video content to the wider PSP network and input into the centrally produced content sharing system currently under development in HQ.
- Respond to ad-hoc requests by other PSP teams or the network that support the development of other video assets including sourcing video b-roll for direct response television adverts, short films and other needs.

- Deliver communication activities and content that demonstrate a clear strategic link with broader campaign strategies.

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- University degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years with an Undergraduate degree (equivalent of BA/BS), 2 years with Graduate degree (equivalent to Master¿s) or 1 year with a Doctorate (equivalent to a PhD) of previous job experience relevant to the function in video editing and production.
- A minimum of 1 year experience as a filmmaker within UNHCR or a non-profit organization.
- Previous experience collecting video assets from developing countries or otherwise challenging settings, including emergency settings.
- Excellent communication skills with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Film/video development, editing and production skills.
- Project management proven experience.
- Ability to write scripts and briefs.
- Excellent computer skills, including film editing software.
-       Excellent command of English (written/oral/comprehension); highly developed drafting and editing skills.

- Proficiency in other UN languages.

Staff after having applied to High Risk Duty Stations will have access to country specific information webinars with Field Safety Section (FSS) and Staff Welfare Section (SWS) colleagues and provided with a tool to test their psychological preparedness for serving in High Risk Duty Stations. Applicants who applied for a position in a High Risk country will receive, after the deadline for applications has expired, a joint invitation from the Staff Welfare Section (SWS) and the Field Safety Section (FSS) to participate in these webinars. During the Webinars, latest updates on security and well-being will be provided, and FSS and SWS will address questions raised by participants. Applicants are highly encouraged to benefit, when applicable, from all measures as they provide most up-to-date security and well-being information helpful to assess staff’s readiness to serve in a High Risk Duty Station. A Staff Welfare Officer will also be available, if and when required, to discuss with interested applicants the results of the psychological preparedness tool as well as readiness for assignment in High Risk Duty Stations.

 

- Knowledge and expertise regarding latest multimedia (especially video) techniques and trends

- Proven experience using social media platforms, tools and tactics for engagement

- Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills The Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) sits within UNHCR's Division of External Relations (DER) and is responsible for mobilizing resources from the private sector for refugees. UNHCR have developed a $1 Billion Private Sector Fundraising Strategy 2018-2025. This strategy focuses on both Individual Giving and Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH), and identifies priority fundraising markets and regions.

The Fundraising Communication Team, as part of the Marketing and Emergencies Section, provides a global service that cuts across PSP's income generating streams: Individual Giving and PPH. The team's purpose is to support PSP markets in the acquisition and retention of individual and leadership giving donors by providing: best-practice fundraising communication products, relevant and timely multimedia content and strategic tools, and research to boost UNHCR brand equity and improve brand coherence.

A strong, dynamic and trusted brand drives fundraising. The Associate Video Editor (PSP) is responsible for developing multimedia assets and other communications products for PSP to enhance and drive fundraising and brand equity. Based in the Fundraising Communication Team, this position will support PSP's global fundraising initiatives including emergencies, campaigns, reports and events.

The Associate Video Editor (PSP) will be deployed to frequent field missions to collect content for development of multimedia assets, as well as collaborate with UNHCR operations to source and produce videos and other fundraising collateral. The incumbent will help to progressively increase income to UNHCR from the private sector through effective communication related to campaigns that aim to raise funds or generate leads. Copenhagen is classified as a Category H duty station with all amenities and excellent infrastructure. 

Because of Denmark's northern location in Europe, the number of daylight hours varies significantly. During winter, the sun rises at about 08:00 and sets at about 15:30, whereas in summer the sun rises at about 03:30 and sets as late as 23:00.

Denmark is located in a temperate climate zone. Average daytime temperatures range from 2 °C (35.6 °F) in January to 20 °C (68 °F) in August. The average wind speed is 7.6 m/s, which explains why Denmark is one of the world's largest exporters of wind turbines. Rainy days are likely all year round, while snowfall happens once in a while during winter.

The UN City is located at one of Copenhagen's newest harbor-side developments and is just a 30-minute walk from the city centre. We are also close to Copenhagen's ferry terminal and only minutes away from the Copenhagen¿s main public transport system; with bus 26 located approximately 10 minutes away from the office and Nordhavn train station located approximately 800m from the office. Our address is, Marmorvej 51, 2100 Copenhagen Ø. No specific security conditions pertain to this post.  Copenhagen is a safe environment.

Copenhagen is relatively safe, however as in any other big city you should watch out for pickpockets when using public transport, and pay attention to wallets, jewelry and purses when walking alone. Also, be aware that some areas are not as safe as others. N/A
