Project Manager (national position)

Malteser International, the worldwide relief agency of the Order of Malta for humanitarian aid, works in more than 25 countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas for people in need, regardless of their religion, origin or political affiliation. Its mission is to provide emergency relief as well as to implement rehabilitation measures and to facilitate the link between emergency relief and sustainable development. Christian values and the humanitarian principles of impartiality and independence form the basis of its work in the following areas: Relief, Reconstruction & Rehabilitation; Health & Nutrition; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH); Livelihood & Social Programs and Disaster Risk Reduction. Malteser International is present in Uganda since 1994. Currently MI implements a development project with the German Ministry of Cooperation supporting the development of emergency medical services in Uganda, piloting in Kampala metropolitan area.

For the aforesaid project Malteser International is looking for an experienced    Project Manager (national position) based in Kampala, Uganda.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and organizing project activities according to the objectives, indicators, work plans and approved budgets.
  • Following up, updating, and readjusting project work and time plans together with the technical, administrative and logistics staff
  • Follow up on all activities, address difficulties encountered, and forward issues to the Malteser International SMT where necessary
  • Produce work/project plans and provide monthly reports on agreed Key Performance Indicators for all activities
  • Manage project work plans, reviewing them regularly in order to ensure that tasks and milestones are achieved in a timely manner.
  • Always be on top of all project activities and status.
  • Ensure regular and timely project progress documentation/reports
  • Ensure efficient and effective administrative systems are in line with the projects objectives
  • Be aware of the status of budget consumption and financial planning and expenses
  • Take active part in the project issues/risk management process, by contributing to the identification and prioritization of existing and potential issues and risks, and help to develop mitigating strategies and controls.
  • Use sound judgment to identify which issues and risks should be forwarded and prepare relevant reports/documentation.
  • Represent the project in meetings and other fora with government and stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and network with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the working relationship between the EMS team and its key stakeholders are positive and constructive.
  • Assist stakeholders in developing and achieving their project work plans

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in Business and Management Studies or related field
  • Any medical/clinical background is desirable
  • 3-5 years of experience as Project Manager/assistant project manager in the management of development projects
  • Knowledge of the Ugandan Health Care System, MoH-structures, central and local governmental structures
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing environment and priorities
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills

Conditions:

  • Starting date: February 2019
  • Intended duty stations: Kampala, Uganda
  • Duration of contract: 12 months
  • Salary according to qualification and experience
