Sudan is a huge country, more than four times the size of Sweden and the third largest in Africa—even after South Sudan was carved out in 2011. Sudan has a lot of land and resources, a population of 40 million and a history that predates the Nubian kingdoms established along the Nile River around 4,000 BC.

Sudan’s children make up half of the total population, and the past two decades have seen their lives improve. Fewer boys and girls are dying before their fifth birthday. Primary school attendance is increasing. Immunization coverage is high and the country remains polio free.

Still, millions of children continue to suffer from chronic conflict, from seasonal natural disasters and disease outbreaks, from under-investment in basic social services. Sudan ranks as one of the worst in the world for malnutrition, and three million of its school aged children are not in the classroom.

How can you make a difference?

Under the general supervision of the Chief of Field Office and the technical guidance of the Chief Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, the incumbent is accountable for the accomplishment of the stated key end-results by providing professional expertise and assistance in information/data collection, statistics and data analysis, monitoring), preparation of reports, communication and partnership with special attention to the interest, concern and participation of primary stakeholders. Furthermore, to ensure the technical leadership for UNICEF information management needs of vulnerable children affected by emergency and disasters, with specific focus on routine and administrative data collection, for better preparedness, targeting and coordination of effective humanitarian responses and UNICEF commitments vis-à-vis CCC (humanitarian performance monitoring system).

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Timely monitoring and measurement of changes in conditions due to programme or policies in the states are conducted with the participation of relevant partners and are provided to the Field Office and national partners to facilitate planning, and assess the impact of the programmes and policies, and report on the progress being made.

Ensure that field Office Performance are systematically monitored and data for key Programme and management indicators reports are collected, analyzed and made available to the field office management.

Ensure the technical support for UNICEF information management needs of affected populations by emergency and disasters, with specific focus on routine and administrative data collection for better preparedness, targeting and coordination of effective humanitarian responses

Support UNICEF programme Sections, Field Offices and State CBS  office in routine and administrative data collection, centralization and analysis/publication of state socioeconomic profile for better performance monitoring of progress against Outputs and Outcomes for reporting in VISION-RAM and results-oriented donor reporting.

Ensure the monitoring capacities of Field Office staff and national partners are strengthened, enabling them to increasingly engage in and lead monitoring processes.

Support the Planning Monitoring & Evaluation section in the application of quality assurance standards, and to support  effective communication & partnerships in carrying out integrated planning, monitoring and evaluation activities within the field Office

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

• An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Social Sciences, Demography, Statistics, Socio-economic research, Communication or a related technical field
• A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in Project Management, including research and data analysis and management.  Experience in an international organization working for Sudan is desirable.
• Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
• Fluency in English and Arabic.
