This is a Generic Vacancy Announcement (GVA) for the Talent Group for Child Protection Specialists at the NOC level in the Uganda Country Office. Talent Groups at UNICEF are exclusive lists of pre-vetted, highly qualified professionals intended to fast-track recruitment processes as positions become available. After a rigorous selection process, successful candidates will be placed in the NOC Child Protection Specialist Talent Group for a period of 36 months. While placement in the Talent Group does not guarantee a position, it is an important resource for filling vacancies in Uganda in the Child Protection sector. Candidates placed into the Talent Group will be reviewed when a relevant position becomes available and if found suitable, are offered placements through a direct selection process. How can you make a difference? 

Under the guidance and general supervision of the supervisor, the Specialist supports the development and preparation of the Child Protection programme(s) and is responsible for the management, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of the child protection programmes/projects within the country programme. The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes. H/She facilitates the administration and achievement of concrete and sustainable contributions to national and international efforts to create a protective environment for children against all harm, and to protect their rights to survival, development and well being as established under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, international treaties/frameworks and UN intergovernmental bodies.

The Specialist contributes to the achievement of results according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), and UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework.

To qualify as a Champion for every Child you will have…

An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field.

*A first level university degree (Bachelor's) in a relevant technical field (as identified above), in conjunction with eight (8) years of relevant work experience in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field, may be taken in lieu of a Master’s degree.

A minimum of five years of professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas is required.

Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.

Relevant experience in programme development in child protection related areas in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.

Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is considered as an added advantage.
