Finance Assistant (national position)

 
Malteser International is working in Iraq since 2014, mainly through local partner organizations. Malteser International is now starting a new large-scale program to encourage the return of displaced minorities to the Ninewa Plains. While the program will initially have a strong focus on the repair and reconstruction of damaged houses, the next 2 years will include interventions in livelihood and economic development, education, social cohesion, peacebuilding and dialogue of religions.
 
In support of our work in Iraq, Malteser International is looking for an Erbil based Finance Assistant (national position).
 
As a Finance Assistant, you will be responsible to manage all day-to-day financial transactions of the Programs/projects to ensure effective program implementation within MI Financial policies and procedures and donor requirements.
To assist the Program Administrator in providing efficient financial management for improved ministry quality and achievement of overall organizational objective.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Finance Officer and the Program Administrator to ensure project planning and budgeting work is scheduled to meet the requirements/deadlines
  • Assist in preparation of documents for donor reports and audits (vouchers, staff lists, rental contracts, logistics documents etc.)
  • Participate in the financial capacity assessment of partners; assist the partners’ project planning and budgeting; and consolidate partners’ budget to MI project budget.
  • Assist the partners’ in producing monthly and financial reports.
  • Support the Finance Officer with voucher verification of financial documents of partner organization
  • File accounting related partner documents for easy retrieval
  • Work with partners to identify their financial learning needs and support financial training and mentorship with partners

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in financial and administrative management
  • In depth knowledge of financial control systems, accounting, budget planning and financial reporting in humanitarian aid projects
  • University degree in Finance, Business administration, or other relevant studies desirable
  • Advanced knowledge in MS Excel/Word/PowerPoint. Good working knowledge in accounting software.
  • Ability to be a flexible team player in a multicultural environment
  • Focused individual with capacity to plan and manage in a multiple deadline-working environment
  • Physical and mental strength
  • Fully computer literate (Microsoft Office, accounting software), ability to implement new software packages in field locations
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Language skills in German, Kurdish or Arabic would be a strong asset

Conditions:

  • Starting date: February 1st, 2019
  • Intended duty stations: : Erbil, Iraq
  • Duration of contract: 12 months (extendable to 2 years) due to donor approval
  • Salary: according to qualification and experience, including staff benefits according to national staff regulations
