Training components and learning elements

UNOPS highly values interns’ contributions and realizes the importance of learning during an internship. The internship programme will include on the job training and exposure to various Human Resources management tools. The intern will have access to a large offering of online training on the comprehensive UNOPS intranet and opportunities to communicate with other country offices.

UNOPS encourages the intern to raise specific wishes regarding learning opportunities before and during the internship.

Terms and Conditions

UNOPS will provide the intern with the following:

  • The incumbent shall receive a monthly stipend designed to contribute to the cost of daily expenditures such as commuting and meals
  • If mission travel is undertaken, Daily Subsistence Allowance, in accordance with UN policy
  • The internship comes with no expectations of future employment with UNOPS as a direct result of the internship

Functional Responsibilities

The candidate will work under the direct supervision of Admin & Procurement Assistant and overall guidance of the Project Manager and will be responsible to perform the following duties:

  • Assist in coordination of the procurement activities for the UNOPS office & project and provide support in the procurement processes.
  • Make travel bookings as directed by the Admin & Procurement Assistant
  • Supporting the Admin Assistant in vehicle fleet management
  • Assistant in the preparation of correspondences related to procurement matters.
  • Maintenance of working files on procurement activity.
  • Complete the necessary documentation and filing according to the UNOPS warehouse and assets management policy;
  • Coordinate with the project team for transportation arrangement for dispatches;
  • Support the Admin & Procurement Assistant in maintenance / record keeping of “disposal of assets” and preparation of documents to write-off such items from inventory
  • Filing of handover vouchers/forms of stocks issued and/or returned
  • Assist and learn to maintain and update warehouse records so that the project team can easily find the needed information that he/she is looking for.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Academic qualifications

Should be enrolled in a university programme such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. (or the equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the applications date of the internship.

Computer Literacy

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required
  • Knowledge of ERP systems is an asset
Language Skills

Fluency in at least one UN official language required. Knowledge of second UN official language desirable.

Internship-related experiences

Experience in the mentioned field is not desirable but will be an added advantage.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Interns are responsible for their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, and necessary visa arrangements.
