Purpose of the post

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law.

We are looking for an experienced Recruiter to join recruitment team based in Geneva, exclusively tasked with meeting the talent needs of our “mobile” staff who will be sent to the field. You will play a key role in building relationships and acting as trusted partner with internal hiring managers and the candidates, as well as delivering a high quality service throughout the entire recruitment cycle, and scaling our recruiting practice as we grow as an organization. Above all, you will responsible for attracting and hiring ICRC’s most important asset – its people.

Recruiters work within about a 15- 20-person team and report directly to the Head of Recruitment Operations. Recruitment Operations sit within the Talent Acquisition & Sourcing Unit, with all colleagues sharing a stake in this ambitious and evolving service team. All colleagues are expected to participate or lead on development project work and take a pragmatic and creative approaches to the challenges we face. One of our team values is mutual support and it is expected that the recruiter helps, supports and occasionally replaces his / her colleagues when needed and appropriate.

This role is dedicated to recruit for both operations/protections (50%) such as our core function of delegates but also Health/ Medical profiles (50%).

Main duties and responsibilities

Operational delivery and stakeholder management:

  • Partner closely with Métiers to define the role requirements and Talent Acquisition needs; including taking part into in-depth job briefings and supporting them in building robust, consistent job specifications with agreed competencies and indicators
  • Advertise job openings and collaborate with the HR Marketing team to diffuse the job advertisement on targeted and specific job boards and social media platforms
  • Collaborate with our network of recruiters seated within national societies on generic and specific candidates searches
  • Identify and develop a talent pipeline aligned with mix of ICRC requirements in order to support operational needs with reactivity and quality
  • Adapt the recruitment process in case of emergency

Service excellence for a great candidate experience:

  • Evaluates candidates' files against the ICRC key and functional competencies and job requirements
  • Be the key contact for the candidates during the recruitment process and answer their questions in a timely manner and keeping in mind their candidate experience (including the outcome of their application);
  • Give to the candidates constructive feedbacks regarding the outcome of their application to guarantee a great candidate experience but also ensure they can upskill and / or gain the experience missing to their application and be able to apply again in the future
  • With the support of the HR administrators, carry out various administrative tasks (employee’s files, organization of languages tests…)
  • Ensure a professional and great candidate experience in a sustainable and consistent way during all the recruitment stages

Advisory service / center of expertise

  • Develop, communicate and respects, processes, policies and SLAs internally within the TAQ unit but also with stakeholders
  • Participate in the continuous evaluation and improvement of recruitment activities and tools
  • Develop, update and analyse statistics and metrics, communicate and take actions accordingly
  • Train line managers when appropriate on interview techniques allowing them to reach an objective decision with a quite greater certainty
  • Master the use of the recruitment module of our HRIS (based on Success Factors solution); maintain accurate data and keep the candidates information up-to-date
  • Support our stakeholders when they need to use the recruitment module of the HRIS to spread best practices internally

Education and experience required

  • University degree or equivalent in human resources or business administration
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a HR role, with at least 2 years’ in a recruitment role with an international exposure
  • Previous experience in the humanitarian and / or voluntary sector a very strong asset
  • Experience in working with and / or recruiting medical profiles a strong asset
  • Excellent command of French and English, any additional language an asset
  • Computer literate and experience in the use and maintenance of an application tracking systems and databases, preferably Success Factors
  • At ease with the development and analysis of statistics and metrics

  • Ability to proactively embrace and drive positive transformational change and to take smart risks that improve performance
  • Respect for confidentiality and HR ethics
  • Handle stress well
