Organizational Setting
 
The post is typically located in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County under the Office of the FAO Representation in Liberia of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
 
 
Main Purpose
 
The Agriculture Field Technician will work closely with the NPC to implement the joint project.
 
Supervision Received/Exercised
 
Under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative in Liberia, the Field Technician will work closely with the NPC to implement the project Acceleration Progress towards Economic Empowerment of Rural Women in Liberia (RWEE) a joint project with UN Women, WFP, MoA and Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) to achieve project overall results. The Technician will in collaboration with the NPC and supervision of the Programme Unit carry out the following duties\:-
 
Key Functions/Results
 
The Agriculture Field Technician will be supervised by the National Project Coordinator and will develop detailed work plan, prepare and timely submit monthly progress reports.
 
Tasks and responsibilities
  • Support to NPC to prepare a detail work plan as per assignment;
  • Supervise the coordination, organization, monitoring and overall implementation of project activities in Grand Bassa County;
  • Supervise the receipt and distribution of project inputs (seeds, tools and agro-processing equipment);
  • Ensure proper involvement of beneficiaries, MoA and other stakeholders within the County;
  • Develop distribution plan specifying logistical requirements and stakeholders participation
  • Set up a monitoring and evaluation system to monitor the progress of women and youth engagement into crop value chains (production, post-harvest & management practice, Value addition)
  • Ensure the monitoring and supervision of  village Saving and loan Associations (VSLAs);
  • Support the NPC to prepare a  timely monthly update, progress and terminal reports;
  • Support the NPC to develop a well-defined exit strategy;
  • Ensure FAO comparative advantage is visible throughout implementation areas;
  • Support the NPC in organizing and facilitating training, meetings and workshops;
  • Work in close collaboration with the beneficiaries to ensure crops production sites are properly laid out; and improved production methodologies are practiced;
  • Perform other duties as reasonable for successful project implementation;
     
    Working Relationships
     
    The Agriculture Field Technician interacts with the variety of colleagues from within the immediate work unit and entire FAO Liberia Units to exchange information and provide Agriculture support.
     
    Impact of work
    The incumbent interacts with colleagues from within the work unit and with immediate clients from within the Organization, providing a wide variety of routine Agriculture support services. The impact of work usually is on the quality, timeliness and efficiency of FAO’s Programme operations.
     
     
     
     
 
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
 
 
Minimum Requirements
 
  • University Degree in Agriculture;
  • Good knowledge in Rice, Cassava, and Vegetable value chain;
  • Minimum Three years of working experience, of which at least two years are related to extensive experience in Agriculture;
  • Fluency in written (both reading and writing) and spoken English and working knowledge of the local language(s) is required
  • Candidates should be nationals of Liberia;

  • Very high skills/knowledge of background related to the ToR’s Requirements
  • Experience with UN, and other international Organizations would be an asset
  • Past experience working in the UN/FAO and other international systems preferred
  • The candidate must be Computer literate
