Organizational context

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is an international financial institution and a specialized United Nations agency dedicated to eradicating rural poverty and hunger. It does so by investing in rural people. IFAD finances programmes and projects that increase agricultural productivity and raise rural incomes, and  advocates at the local, national and international level for policies that contribute to rural transformation.

The Smallholder and Agri-SME Finance and Investment Network (SAFIN) is a network of institutions working in the ecosystem for agri-SME finance, supported by a Secretariat/Coordination Team housed at IFAD and funded under a dedicated budget in the context of the External Relations and Governance (ERG) Department.


Post's organizational accountability

The purpose of the position is to provide quality support to the design and implementation of SAFIN activities that focus on knowledge management and communication, with a view to strengthening the positive impact of the network on collective and individual learning in its midst as well as to establish a solid profile for the network among a broader audience.


Key results expected / Major functional activities

The Knowledge Management Analyst works under the daily supervision of the SAFIN Senior Coordinator and in close collaboration with the rest of the SAFIN team.

His/her functions include:

  • Organizing all knowledge management activities and events (e.g. webinars, workshops, plenary meetings, side events), with the exception of logistical tasks, including:
    • Design of events
    • Preparation of supporting knowledge and communication products
    • Communication activities before, during, and after all events
  • Developing content for/maintaining the SAFIN website
  • Preparing and/or accompanying the production of all SAFIN communication material and knowledge products (including the full editorial process and translation, where applicable)
  • Preparing periodic reports on SAFIN activities for different target audiences (internal and external)
  • Supporting the SAFIN fundraising process and preparation of donor reports.

The Knowledge Management Analyst, SAFIN is accountable for quality, substantive work and ability to project a competent and trusted image of the Fund to partners within IFAD and outside.


Representation / Work relationships

The Knowledge Management Analyst is expected to work in regular dialogue with SAFIN partners, notably communication and knowledge management staff within partner institutions, for the discharge of his/her functions

Minimum recruitment qualifications

  • Advanced university degree from an accredited institution in international development, international relations, political science or related field. The advanced university degree may be substituted by a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) plus at least four additional years of relevant professional experience, over and above the minimum number of years of experience as stipulated above.
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in knowledge management, event and campaign management and/or any KM-related activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Working knowledge of another official language (French or Spanish) is an asset.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft packages and electronic communication.

Other information

Applicants should note that IFAD staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the President of IFAD, and they may be assigned by him/her to any of the activities of IFAD, including field assignments and/or rotation within IFAD.
