Salary: GBP 57,000 per annum

Location: UK Office, London

As the head of Asia, based withinthe international directorate at our office in London, you will manage theBritish Red Cross support to humanitarian activities across the region throughour Red Cross Movement (RCM) partners.

Using your considerable experience of humanitarian and development assistancein Asia, you will lead a team of international and local staff, based in theregion and in the UK, to deliver the British Red Cross's strategy for theregion. You will seek to contribute to the development of RCM capacity, whilstmaintaining an overview of other humanitarian risks and threats across theregion.

You will support the country teams in developing our current partnerships withRed Cross and Red Crescent national societies in the region, seeking tostrengthen their capacities to respond to emergencies and to build theresilience of vulnerable communities. You will also explore new opportunitiesfor partnerships in the regions with national societies and with theInternational Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) andthe International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), particularly duringemergency operations.

Reporting to the director of programmes and partnerships, you will work closelywith the other heads of region and the head of global emergencies, ensuringconsistent approaches to our engagement with RCM partners across the regions.You will also work closely with the Head of the Emergency, Surge and TechnicalAdvisory to ensure good practice and effectiveness in all British Red Cross supported programmes.

Whilst ideally you will be familiar with the International Red Cross and RedCrescent Movement, for this leadership role, key requirements include:

  • Considerable experience of working in the humanitarian and international development sector at a strategic level, including overseas experience in both emergency response and long term programmatic roles.
  • Significant experience of developing strategic partnerships in developing countries.
  • Leading and developing teams, including management of multi-cultural and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Engagement with institutional and private donors at a senior level.
  • Organisational representation at a strategic level.
  • Strong understanding of vulnerability issues and humanitarian trends within Asia.
