At WFP Centre of Excellence, we are looking for talented professionals to support us as a Programme Assistant in Brasilia, Brazil. You will be involved in the researches, publications and analysis of social protection documents related to PNAE – Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar, Nutrition and South-South cooperation, and will give support to other related tasks to the programme unit´s work.

About the Centre of Excellence against Hunger

The WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger is a global forum for policy dialogue and South-South learning in school feeding, nutrition and food security programmes. The Centre of Excellence is a result of a partnership between WFP and the Brazilian government and was created in 2011 to support governments in Africa, Asia and Latin American in developing sustainable solutions against hunger. We provide policy and programme advice, technical assistance, learning opportunities and brings southern nations together to help them develop their own solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger.

The Centre is an innovation that seeks to respond governments’ demands for technical support to strengthen their national capacities and knowledge on sustainable school feeding and to support them in the design and management of healthy and sustainable national school feeding and other hunger programmes. Responsibilities and tasks

As a Research Assistant, you will be working under the overall supervisor of the Director and direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, and will be responsible for:

  • Support the programme unit on the execution of the work plan for 2019;
  • Liaise with the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE) to facilitate the access the databases that are needed for the conduction of the Centre of Excellence projects in School Feeding;
  • Support the dialogue between the WFP Centre of Excellence and the FNDE considering the joint activities proposed along the year;
  • Provide valuable inputs on the analysis of the PNAE based on practical experience acquired on the execution of the program;
  • Conduct other duties, as required.

Minimum qualifications

Education: University degree in the following areas: Nutrition, International Relations, Development Studies or other related areas. Advanced studies in the related fields is an advantage.

Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience in the area of Nutrition and related Brazilian social policies and programmes. Experience with nutrition under the work of UN programmes is an asset.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in Portuguese are required. Working knowledge of English and/or French is an advantage.

Selection of candidates is made on a competitive basis on account of potential and performance. All applicants will undergo a process which includes screening against job requirements, a technical test, and a panel interview.

Candidates must be Brazilian nationals or must have permission to work in the country.
