Your team

Within the Directorate European Civil-Military Aviation, the DECMA/Aviation and Cooperation Strategies (ACS) Division drives the Agency’s aviation strategies, leads Master Plan and architecture activities, manages high-level relations with European & global aviation partners, supports pan-European stakeholders, and tackles emerging business areas (digitalisation, cyber, drones, etc.).

Your role

PURPOSE OF THE TRAINEESHIP


Eurocontrol research safety tools make use of track data to identify critical safety decisions made by controllers.


You will be contributing to the development of processing software for modelling ATM safety, i.e. how to take track data and transform it into an output that allows safety tools to be targeted on the data. 


You will understand how track data is structured and how to clean, analyse, store and report safety occurrences.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES


Under the continuous supervision, support and coaching of a mentor, you will participate in the following tasks:



  • Contribute to the analysis and understanding of data processing to support existing EUROCONTROL safety risk analysis tools;

  • Participate in commenting the code and writing the associated technical documentation with the functioning of the pre and post processor;

  • Assist in exploring, establishing and validating the parameters and assumptions embedded within the existing code & refine them, as required;

  • Engage in developing a pre-processor and post-processor software application for data analysis and identifying safety events that support EUROCONTROL safety risk analysis;

  • Use standard libraries to optimise and existing tools and ensure modern standards in software are implemented.

Your profile


  • Students completing their Master's or equivalent in Computing, Computer Science, Data Analysis or Software Engineering;

  • Have a genuine interest in coding and writing software;

  • Be familiar with processing data;

  • Knowledge in Software development environments - C# and or Java;

  • Understand Air Traffic Management system: main actors and elements involved;

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. Therefore, candidates must have an excellent command of English  (written and verbal) and French. Additional language knowledge may be an asset.

  • A flat-rate allowance of €900 per month as a contribution towards living expenses will be granted.

  • Reimbursement of travel expenses to take up appointment and leave may be covered by means of a lump sum.
