1.     Organizational Context
 

a.     Organizational Setting

 

The post is located in the Hague Development and Promotion Section, The Hague Registry, Brands and Designs Sector.  The Hague Registry is responsible for the management and development of the Hague System.  The Hague System is based on the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs that allows users to seek protection for their industrial designs in the various Contracting Parties by means of a single application filed directly with the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and to subsequently manage those rights under a single title, recorded centrally in the International Register.  The Hague Agreement is constituted by the Geneva Act of July 2, 1999 (the "1999 Act") and the Hague Act of November 28, 1960 (the "1960 Act").

The Hague Development and Promotion Section is responsible for the geographical and business development of the Hague System to ensure its global positioning as the system of choice for designs to be protected internationally.  Working in close synergies with the other sections in the Hague Registry and other units in the Organization, the Section is responsible for fostering and supporting new accession initiatives, enhancing the implementation of the Hague System in the existing membership and seeking its wider and better use.

 

b.    Purpose Statement

 

The incumbent is required to assist with the implementation of a tailored promotion policy of the Hague System, undertaking researches to identify target companies in countries with significant user potential.  He/she will also support the promotion of greater use of the Hague System through tailored information products, including the Hague Member Profiles Database and Contact Hague Service, as well as participating in workshops, seminars and webinars for Hague System users and major stakeholder groups.  He/she will further assist in the implementation of an international design registration management system in line with the overall strategic objectives and future direction of the Organization's IP systems.

 

c.    Reporting Lines

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Head of the Section.

 

2.      Duties and Responsibilities
 
The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:
 
a.   Undertake research and marketing activities focused in countries with significant user potential and participate in the implementation of an appropriate and targeted promotion policy.
 
b.   Assist in the management of the new, revamped front-facing electronic international design registration system, ensuring business and user requirements are met.
 
c.   Manage the ticketing system for issue tracking in Hague System related projects.
 
d.   Prepare statistics and analyses relating to the use of the Hague System and to customer service indicators.
 
e.   Participate in the Section's proposal and, working in close collaboration with the Operations Service and the Hague IS Division, the development of IT tools as needed, including but not limited to\:

(i)   web solutions for users of the Hague portal of the WIPO website;

(ii)  database search tools for internal strategic use at the Hague Registry and for users of the Hague System; 

(iii)  tools to support user experience of the Hague System;  and

(iv) tools to enhance Customer Service.
 
f.    Participate in the editing and development of content for the Hague portal of the WIPO website, working in close collaboration with other teams across WIPO, and more specifically in the proposal and development of IT tools as needed including but not limited to\:

(i)   outline, write and edit content for the WIPO website;

(ii)  liaise with the Web Communications Section to ensure existing content is up to date, search-engine friendly and consistent with brand, editorial and graphic guidelines;

(iii)  provide analysis on website use through statistics.  Propose changes and develop prototypes to improve usability and increase user engagement and follow up on their implementation;  and

(iv) participate in the organization of training sessions and provide training to the Hague Registry staff on writing and preparing content for the website.
 
g.   Participate in workshops, seminars and webinars for the Hague System users and major stakeholder groups; and
 
h.   Perform other related duties as required.
 
  
3.      Requirements
 
 
Education (Essential)
First level university degree in communications, public relations, journalism, computer science, online marketing or related field.
 
 
Experience (Essential)
At least three years' experience in web communications, including experience in web content management and text editing.  Experience in customer engagement and in developing user experiences.
 
Experience (Desirable)
Excellent skills in writing and editing for the web, including the ability to present complex information clearly and succinctly, adapting message to culturally diverse audiences.
 
Language (Essential)
Excellent knowledge of English.
 
Language (Desirable)
Working knowledge of French or Spanish.
 
Job Related Competencies (Essential)
Experience in using web editing tools including Web Content Management Systems (CMS);  good knowledge of HTML, SQL, CSS, and other programming languages.
Knowledge and experience with JIRA ticketing.
Knowledge of the Agile project management methodology.
Understanding of intellectual property.
Experience with web analytics and reporting.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work and deliver under deadline pressure in a multicultural, team environment.  Strong interpersonal skills.
Good knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques and web usability practices would be an advantage.
 
Job Related Competencies (Desirable)
Knowledge of the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs.

Annual salary\:
 
Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.  The post adjustment (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change without notice in accordance with the rates as set within the UN Common System for salaries and allowances.  The figures quoted below are based on the February 2019 rate of 70.0%

Temporary appointments are renewable, subject to continuing needs, availability of budget and satisfactory performance with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
