The focus of the Declaration Validation and Evaluation (Industry) Section is the validation of declarations of chemicals used in industry. The team works closely with the States Parties to reach its objectives in coordinating the input and validation of declarations. We develop tools and provide guidance to ensure complete declarations. We also focus on evaluation and analysis of declarations data.

Job Summary

The work involves data analysis and data representation.



Since communicating with people gives you a lot of energy, this is an important part of your day to day work. You can use your job experience and insights in support of your clients, both those in-house and representatives of States Parties.



This role requires working in a confidentiality regime and using a high level of discretion when dealing with sensitive information on declarations of industry chemicals. Hope you like to travel… you will be required to undertake some international duty travel for this role.

Main Responsibilities


In your role you will be responsible for:



  • Evaluation of industry declarations and other verification information

  • Actively liaising and follow up with representatives of States Parties to clarify issues identified during evaluation

  • Building effective relationships with representatives of States Parties

  • Cooperating with stakeholders to deliver capacity building and to design training courses, presentations and outreach activities

  • Maintaining, updating and developing chemical databases and tools.


Qualifications and Experience


Education


You should have an advanced university degree in chemistry or life sciences or a first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience (minimum 7 years) which may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. The lack of a degree may be off-set with relevant specialised training in combination with a minimum of 11 years of qualifying experience.


Knowledge and Experience


Make sure you have:



  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in the chemical industry or in a government agency involved in chemical or drug control

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs

  • Experience in the analysis and representation of electronic data


Skills and Competencies


To succeed in this role you will need in depth knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, database programs and reporting tools. We are looking for a candidate with strong analytical and conceptual skills. To successfully communicate with stakeholders you have strong customer focus as well as good interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, and experience in drafting reports. You have a well developed sense of tact, accuracy and discretion, and understand what it takes to work harmoniously in a multi-cultural environment.


Languages


Fluency in English is essential and a good working knowledge of one of the other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.


Additional Information


This fixed-term appointment is for the duration of two years with a six-month probationary period, and is subject to the OPCW Staff Regulations and Interim Staff Rules.



The OPCW is a non-career organisation with limited staff tenure. The total length of service for Professional staff shall not exceed 7 years.



The Director-General retains the discretion to not make any appointment to this vacancy, to make an appointment at a lower grade, or to make an appointment with a modified job description. Several vacancies may be filled.
