UNDP in Sri Lanka is reorganizing internally and moving to an integrated collaborative business model. In this context, UNDP is now accepting applications for a qualified, committed and motivated individual for the position of Development Research Analyst (DRA), to start in May 2018. Ongoing and future research projects that the DRA will work on include economic, social and/or environmental issues, while   systematically engaging in identifying, researching, and analyzing prospects that impact quality and effectiveness of the overall UNDP development programs. 
 

Duties and Responsibilities

 
Under the direct supervision of the Policy and Design Specialists, the DRA will undertake the following tasks:
 
  • Perform research on various economic, social and/or environmental issues and support the collection of data and information for research analysis, programme formulation, programming and advocacy;
  • Contribute to formulation of policy briefs/position papers, discussion papers, research reports and publications, programme/project progress and conclusion reports;
  • Support knowledge products from policy work related to SDG/Agenda 2030 and the National Human Development Report. Support in proof reading and editing of such documents;
  • Provide coordination and administrative support for policy and programming, by organising meetings, consultations and advocacy programmes especially for NHDR and SDG related work;  
  • Support the conceptualisation of new integrated programmes and projects for UNDPs Programme;
  • Any other relevant tasks required. 
 
Impact of Results
  • Quality research inputs and analysis provided for policy formulation and advocacy, research reports and publications, position/discussion papers, programme/project progress and conclusion reports, knowledge management products, as well as conceptualization of programmes and projects
 

Competencies

  • Strong language skills and experience in developing policy papers/ briefs etc.;
  • Experience working with civil society organizations, government ministries, UN agencies, private sector;
  • Familiarity with information systems and communication technologies is an asset;
  • Strong coordination, communication and collaboration skills with experience in consensus building and in motivating cross-functional teams to meet ambitious project goals and timelines;
  • Strong organizational and networking skills;
  • High level of motivation, initiative and work independently without much supervision;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and work effectively within and outside the organization;
  • Ability to travel, occasionally to programme locations;
  • Integrate Gender dimensions to the project planning and implementation.
 

Required Skills and Experience

Education &Experience:
 
  • A master’s degree in development studies, development economics, public policy or any other related field with minimum five (5) years of experience in research, analysis and preparation of briefing/ discussion papers, program/project progress and conclusion reports, etc.;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel etc.)
  • Language Requirement
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English, along with Sinhala and/or Tamil
