Could you design and test new products which provide impactful solutions to help people in crisis?

What you will be doing

As UX Designers you will help us redesign essential products and services -improving the experience of people in crisis as well as our volunteers and staff.

As part of the digital team, you'll collaborate with users, service volunteers and staff as well as delivery managers, developers and other designers.

Projects being worked on
The two roles will cover a number of projects, including three major initiatives: Mobility Aids, Curriculum and Volunteer Experience.

Mobility Aids: following a successful project developing the ability for users to search for and reserve equipment online, we're now supporting the service in their move to a social enterprise model. This will make the service more sustainable in the long term and means some key changes to the digital elements of the service. We're looking for someone with a strong focus on putting the user at the centre.

Curriculum: With first aid education being added to the curriculum, we're looking at how we can best support learning in schools. Digital will play a key part of this, and we're looking for someone who's going to ensure what we build is designed with our users at the heart. Experience of working within either education or first aid would be ideal, but not essential.

Volunteer Experience: Following an extensive service design project, we have several concepts which we're looking to design and test to improve recruitment and engagement of the 20,000+ volunteers who support our services across the UK (E.g. event first aid, refugee support, independent living).

We use kindness to help those in crisis, and behind every great cause there's a great team making everything possible.

It is essential that our organisation is meeting the changing and increasing expectations of those in crisis, and our volunteers and staff providing services.
Our Central Innovation work across the organisation, identifying opportunities and finding new ways in which we can better accomplish the British Red Cross mission and support people in crisis.

Our team is small but what we can accomplish is huge, and we're all united by a shared passion for being at the forefront of innovation and technology, and developing exciting products.

This role might be for you if...

  • You have sound experience of conducting user research; primarily qualitative, but ideally quantitative too
  • You have experience of creating and working with design patterns as well as hands on experience of the product lifecycle
  • You have experience of working with internal legacy systems/processes and working with different teams managing different requirements with an understanding of content and service design
  • You can translate research into deliverables and have skills in user testing, journey mapping experience and rapid prototyping

Closing date for applications is 23:59 on the 28th of February 2019 with interviews to follow.
