The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
The establishment of a UN Environment Office in Brasilia in April 2004, is part of a decentralization strategy aimed at responding more effectively to environmental priorities at national and sub-national levels and to assist in building capacities to address emerging issues, new development challenges and to contribute to combat poverty.
The UN Environment/Brazil Office's internship is for six (6) months.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (30 hours) under the supervision of a staff to which they are assigned.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the supervision of a staff member, the intern will be supporting UN Environment – Country Office Brazil in the assistance of the Communication Team
More specifically, the job will entail the following tasks:
-Under supervision of the Communication Manager, assist on engaging in strategic communications planning and processes that support UN Environment mission, strengthen the visibility of the organization and raise public awareness on environmental issues;
-Assist in maintain and regularly update the UN Environment Brazil website as well as the UN Environment Brazil social medias;
-Draft and implement a digital communications strategy for the UN Environment Country Office;
-Monitor social media, and report relevant information to inform the development and or evaluation of communications activities and strategies;
-Assist in the production of the UN Environment’s communication updates and newsletter;
-Produce graphic materials, produce and edit photographic/video material, produce the graphic design for brochures and other documentation;
-Help develop graphic materials, edit audio-visual content, prepare PowerPoint and Prezi presentations, and other related activities when required
-Assist on the implementation of internal and external strategies for communications and outreach;
-On a daily basis, screens incoming correspondence and telephone calls, draft routine correspondence (in Portuguese, English and Spanish) and takes appropriate follow-up action;
-Assist the Communication Manager in gathering information relevant to the Office Representative in the elaboration of documents and analysis;
-Collect background information and contribute to the preparation of reports, project documents and working papers namely in environment-related sectors;
-Support the organization of workshops, seminars and missions;
-Perform other clerical tasks as required.
-Support other activities of the Country Office as requested.

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a)Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (university degree or equivalent, or higher as Master’s, specialization etc);
b)Have graduated with a university degree or higher and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Final year undergraduate or master’s degree student in Media and Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertisement, Marketing and or any relevant Communication and Development field.

Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Portuguese are required.
Working knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
