SCA Background

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development programmes concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is around 5,500. During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Scope of work:

 The Nutrition Supervisor should work with cooperative attitude to keep the link and integrate the Nutrition with BPHS activities in accordance to the national standards at health facility, district and province level

To work with cooperative attitude to keep the link and integrate the Nutrition activities with BPHS activities in accordance to the national standards at health facility, district and province level Plan, coordinate, supervise/monitor and report nutrition related activities especially BPHS, TFU and WFP TSFP funded Nutrition Project in line with Logical Framework of the project in the province and develop communication network for this purpose in coordination with the BPHs Nutrition

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • He/she must be graduated from recognized university of Medical as (MD) or equivalent certified by relevant higher education authority in Afghanistan or other countries.
  • He/she must have at least two years of working experience in the field of nutrition, as a nutrition supervisor/Officer or Manager
  • Got training in Nutrition SOP and has experience of working in BPHS    
  • He/she must be a good team player and be able to work in  under pressure conditions/circumstances
  • He/she must have good communication skills
  • Has the ability to write and speak local languages (Pashto, Dari) and English

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of health workers working for Nutrition 
  • Provide supervisory and monitoring visits as per approved schedule from Nutrition project sites identified deviation take necessary action and support the health facilities staff
  • To work with cooperative attitude, implement Nutrition activities in BPHS HFs in accordance to the national standards
  • Plan, coordinate, supervise/monitor and report nutrition related activities in line with Logical Framework of the project in the province
  •  develop communication network for nutrition activities in coordination with the PPHD Nutrition Officer.
  • Assist & support the formation of provincial nutrition steering committees & technical working groups on Nutrition.
  • Maintain Nutrition related database and support collection and provision of data for project periodic reporting system
  • Collect, compile & analyses project data to monitor progress on monthly and quarterly bases.
  • Prepare and distribute Nutrition related IEC materials and disseminate to the HFs
  • In coordination with CBHC Officer, CHSs and CHWs for referring of malnourished cases to the HFs through CHWs debriefing days and supervisory visits
  • Support and implement Nutrition Relevant Surveys when needed
  • Provide and submit monthly work plans and activities reports on monthly basis to MOPH and WFP as per the agreed timelines.
  • Conduct on the job training during each supervision for nutrition activities, both regarding curative and preventive activities
  • Participate as facilitator in nutrition trainings with close coordination of CDO and other trainers
  • Through transfer of knowledge and skills, enhances the ability and capacity of health worker in Health facility to ensure smooth implementation of the designed Nutrition program based on MoPH approved strategies
  • Identify training needs of health workers and design training package for the capacity development of health workers
  • He/she should ensure to conduct planned training as per developed schedule for the health practitioners on Nutrition (SOP)
  • Promote gender equality, non-discrimination with regard to ethnic, political and religious background
  • To participate in workshops, seminars & conference organised by the SCA, MoPH and other Nutrition supportive organization.
  • Promotes good coordination with all SCA units and other department at WRMO and KMO especially Wardak BPHS and health unite.
  • Maintain good cooperative relation with Nutrition program relevant authorities/stakeholders at national and provincial
  • To actively contribute to the successful development and good reputation of the SCA
  • Act according to the policy and regulations of SCA
  • Keep updated with issues related to SCA and the environment where SCA operates
  • Promote an attitude of team spirit and a strong focus on quality
  • Develop good co-operation with SCA units, authorities, institutions and other NGOs
  • Do related job as delegated by the BPHS project manager
  • To do any other official duties assigned by the supervisor
