NRC in Jordan

Established in 2012 NRC Jordan’s long-term outlook addresses the problems affecting life as a refugee. We work to build the resilience of Syrians, and to relieve the impact on the Jordanian communities that host them.  Syrian refugees in Jordan are struggling. As they contend with difficult living conditions across the country, the obstacles are complex. They struggle to remain registered as refugees, to provide for their families, and to access essential services – including education for their children. The Jordanian communities that host them, meanwhile, feel the impact of hosting high numbers of refugees – with each year that passes, local infrastructure becomes more strained.

Role Specific Information

NRC is implementing an Urban shelter programming in the norther area of Jordan. These activities aim to provide adequate and secure shelters for vulnerable households; this involves social and technical assessments, planning activities, supervision of cases during execution of works, and follow up with beneficiaries.
 
Teams are organized in field units which are supervised by an officers and as made of team members of social and technical background. These units are directly in charge of reaching targets interact with beneficiaries and have a wide range of responsibility to identify cases and suggest the most suitable support for each of them.
 
The Field Team - Construction Technical Assistant (FT-CTA) are responsible to conduct technical assessments, support beneficiaries, monitor progress of projects and be the main link with communities and the project, since they are in direct interaction with potential beneficiaries, landlords and other stakeholders in daily basis.
 
The FT-CTA s Are the forefront of the Urban shelter strategy. They build teams should engage in direct interaction with families and landlords. Most of the work is executed in the field having direct contact with the people that NRC wish to assist. It is expected that FT-CTAs spend 80% of their time in the field, roughly 6 hours per day.
 
All this work should be executed a per NRC's standards and guidelines.

Generic responsibilities:

  •  Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
  • Assist a range of support with the implementation of the Core Competency portfolio according to plan of action.
  • Implements independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated.
  • Responsible for organizing and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, in order to be most effective in supporting the team.
  • Use initiative in day to day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work.
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
  • Ensure proper filing of documents.
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.
  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards & principles within NRC and amongst beneficiaries served by NRC.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Prepare and organise assessment in the field (10%).
  • Develop final BoQ and explain of technical works to beneficiaries and landlords (10%).
  • Execute field assessments, including develop BoQ, technical follow ups and technical validations of cases. (80%)
  • Other Functions that might be assigned by the supervisor.

Our Ideal Candidate:

The candidate must have Vocational/Tawjihi degree or equivalent , with a minimum of One year of experience in a similar field preferably within a humanitarian context.

The ideal candidate must be highly motivated and positive, with experience working in engineering, architecture or equivalent. They must be detail oriented as well as organised in order to handle multiple tasks and work well with the team.

Additional Information:

Contract period: Through to 30 September 2019 (Renewable based on funding & performance)  

Salary/benefits: 842 JOD (subject to social security and Income tax)

Duty station: Mafraq
