The PFP Advocacy Unit provides UNICEF’s 34 National Committees in industrialized countries with guidance and technical support for their advocacy and platform initiatives, working closely with other relevant UNICEF Divisions. This entails support for coordination with and among NatComs on their Child Friendly Cities Initiatives (CFCI).

The PFP Advocacy Unit provides UNICEF’s 34 National Committees in industrialized countries with guidance and technical support for their advocacy and platform initiatives, working closely with other relevant UNICEF Divisions. This entails support for coordination with and among NatComs on their Child Friendly Cities Initiatives (CFCI).

How can you make a difference?

Consequently, this 7-month consultancy is established to assist the organization of the Child Friendly Cities Summit in October 2019. The Summit will be a major milestone for the Child Friendly Cities Initiative and organized in collaboration with the German National Committee and the City of Cologne. The incumbent will be supporting the CFCI team in the PFP Advocacy Unit on project management, knowledge management and administrative and logistics support in the lead up to the Summit, as well as support the team in follow-up after the Summit.

MAIN TASKS:

The incumbent is expected to deliver on the following:

  1. Supporting the preparations of the CFCI Summit:
    1. Preparing background information;
    2. Project management;
    3. Budget tracking;
    4. Coordination UNICEF National Committees;
  2. Supporting coordination of the CFCI Agenda Committee:
    1. Overseeing and supporting thematic tracks;
    2. Ensuring that agenda development is on track;
    3. Documenting and following-up on agreements of the Agenda Committee.
  3. Knowledge management:
    1. Capturing best practices from CFCIs;
    2. Coordinating inputs to the CFCI website and CFCI intranet pages.
  4. Administrative and logistics support as required:
    1. Overseeing invitations and registrations;
    2. Supporting travel arrangements;
    3. Assisting meetings as required.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Timely and efficient project and budget management.
  • Efficient and professional support to the CFCI Agenda Committee.
  • Capturing and turning good practices generated before and after the Summit into knowledge management products.
  • Admin and logistic support is provided in a timely manner.

ESTIMATED DURATION OF THE CONTRACT AND PROPOSAL:

The contract will cover the period 1 April to 31 October 2019 (7 months)

REPORTING TO:

The incumbent will report to the Chief of Advocacy. The Advocacy & Policy Specialist/ CFCI Advisor will provide overall direction and daily supervision.

WORK PLACE:

The incumbent will be based in Geneva, Switzerland.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A master's degree in social science, child rights studies or related field;
  • Two Years of experience with knowledge management, network support and information sharing;
  • Excellent language skills in English, fluency in German (the event will take place in Cologne, Germany) would be an asset;
  • Ability to work independently and to meet tight deadlines;
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking;
  • Good understanding of UNICEF priority child rights concerns in industrialized countries;
  • Familiarity with the work of UNICEF National Committees on advocacy and the Child Friendly Cities Initiative is an asset.

Please indicate your ability, availability and gross daily/monthly rate (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference above (including travel and daily subsistence allowance, if applicable).  Applications submitted without a daily/monthly rate will not be considered. Also, please mention the earliest date you can start.
