The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their peoples.

Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies.It is country-driven and undertakes actions which reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Since its establishment, the GCF has mobilized 10.3 billion USD, accredited 75 entities to channel its resources and approved 93 funding proposals for a total investment from the GCF of over $4.6 billion. In addition, the decision has just been made to launch the first replenishment of the Fund.

Internship Assignment

The Intern will provide research support to the Independent Evaluation Unit. S/he will have the opportunity to learn and expand her/his experiences by assisting in the Independent Evaluation Unit and also getting to know the GCF.

Under the overall guidance of the designated primary and alternate supervisors within the IEU, the Intern is expected to contribute primarily to Corporate and Thematic evaluations:

  1. This is a desk based internship position for a highly motivated, self-starting person who can work with minimal supervision and who is resourceful enough to engage with senior professionals in the field of behavioral science and climate.
  2. Assist the IEU in establishing behavioral science and climate with information in machine readable formats and for doing basic data analysis. He/she will also maintain data records, and prepare the manuals for the use of the document filing system;
  3. And other tasks as suggested by the Head of the IEU.

Deliverables:

  1. At the end of the internship, the intern will have analyzed fifteen GCF funded projects and considered specific alternatives for behavioral science alternatives for these projects.
  2. At the end of the internship, the intern will have created a strategy note for the IEU on how the IEU may work with FPs and the Secretariat, to develop, implement and suggest future work on behavioral insights that is consistent with IEU’s current and future strategy.

Requirements and Qualifications

  1. Enrolled in - or having recently completed - a Master’s program; Environmental science, Social science, Economics, Psychology or related fields;
  2. Have previous experience with behavioral insights and ‘nudge’ related work;
  3. Excellent writing skills and capacity to timely record accurate minutes;
  4. Should have good analytical skills and be able to analyze documents and projects and think about innovative methods and designs for climate related projects and applications of behavioral science to them;
  5. Proficiency in standard programs: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;
  6. Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language is an advantage.
  7. Have previous work experience preferably in the development sector.
  8. Work experience with an international organization is a plus.
  9. Should have thought about using behavioral science in the climate context

*The person assessed by the Selection Panel as most suitable for the position will be proposed for appointment. The above criteria should be seen as indicators of the experience and skills that would qualify candidates for consideration. Selection among short-listed candidates will also take into account performance at interview, appropriate testing, and references.
