Intern - National Climate Change Adaptation Program

We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the UAE Country Office / Green Growth Planning and Implementation (GGPI) division to assist in the implementation of the UAE’s National Climate Adaptation Program, which aims to identify adaptation measures for targeted priority areas and develop the framework for long-term, systematic, and science-based adaptation planning, implementation, and M&E to address the UAE’s major risks and vulnerabilities. The project will involve a comprehensive stocktaking of the current situation to identify gaps and priorities, carry out risk assessments, and prioritize key adaptation options that will yield the greatest impact for the UAE.    

The assignment will include the following tasks, but not limited to:

  • Conduct research and identify studies related to qualitative and quantitative assessments of sectoral vulnerability, risks, and adaptive capacity to climate change
  • Contribute in the comprehensive review of literature, including development of offline knowledge platform and annotated bibliography on climate change adaptation in the UAE
  • Support the comprehensive stocktaking of existing initiatives on climate change adaptation at the federal and emirate level covering a wide range of sectors especially health, energy and water, infrastructure, and environment
  • Participate in carrying out surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and other data gathering methodologies
  • Provide succinct analysis of primary and secondary data related to climate change adaptation in the UAE
  • Assist in writing, editing, and designing analytical reports and other technical materials
  • Assist with various tasks linked to organizational and substantive dimensions of program and project implementation
  • If applicable, provide support to organize and conduct meetings relevant to the work of the organization, including the drafting of documents, preparation for and backstopping of meetings, and follow-up activities
  • Participate in day-to-day operational tasks of the organization, such as servicing requests for information, support for developing presentations, etc.

 

 Qualification

 

  • Completion of bachelor’s degree and/or currently enrolled in/ holding a master’s degree / PHD in environmental management, natural resource economics, climate change, international development, or any other relevant field.

Languages requirement

 

  • English is the working language of GGGI at the UAE. Knowledge of Arabic or another official UN language is an asset.
