Org. Setting and Reporting

The Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) was established in 2007 to strengthen the links and coordinate the Department's activities in the areas of police, justice and corrections, mine action, the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants and security sector reform. The Public Information and Graphic Design internship in the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions is for a period of six months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Intern will be responsible for:

- Assist the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) with strategic communication and public outreach;
- Assist in developing graphic design and multimedia products for web and social networking platforms;
- Assist in developing content management and development of OROLSI stories and information to increase awareness and understanding of OROLSI issues;
- Assist with drafting and editing OROLSI publications (e.g. fact sheets, brochures, newsletters and donor-related updates) for internal and external purposes;
- Conceptualize and create digital products such as data visualizations, animations and interactive content utilizing design and other software;
- Research, compile, draft and edit basic information for use in the preparation and production of social media content;
-Monitor and analyze statistics related to social media content and web analytics based platforms (i.e. Talkwalker, Twitter Analytics, Facebook Insights).
- Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
- Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. Experience administering social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter) and developing creative and graphic content, is required. Experience with design software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator) and literate in standard software applications (including Powerpoint, Excel and Word) is desirable. Experience with video creation is also desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship position fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
